I have taken 2026 to write weekly short articles about topics of my interest, especially since recently I have seen an interest from the sports science and performance community.
I chose the anaerobic speed reserve and its utility in athletic profiling and conditioning individualization.
So, go ahead and read this week's short article in the link below on LinkedIn
I'll briefly cover why I use the mile run, and not the Yo‑Yo or 30‑15 IFT, as my go-to test for measuring maximum aerobic speed (MAS) to calculate the anaerobic speed reserve (ASR).
I draw on my research with swimmers, how I use it with basketball players briefly explain how intermittent tests embed noise from deceleration, acceleration, MSS, and VO₂ kinetics - making it harder to isolate cardiovascular improvements.
I also share visuals from my dissertation and what I have observed with athletes I have trained. I will continue posting more to improve the clarity of ASR profiling and how it can help tailor conditioning more precisely.
🧠 Evidence-based 📊 Data-driven 🏃♂️ Practical for field testing
Let me know your thoughts or how you approach MAS testing in your setting👇

It was a pleasure to speak on ‘Life Behind the Data’ with graduate students in the Athlete Monitoring class, part of the Health & Sports Science Department at the University of Louisville.
We often limit athletes by reducing them to data points, but when we step back and view the bigger picture, we begin to see the whole person—not just the metrics.
