"The Present" has been published yey!✨✨✨ After the course of almost five years, I am happy and honored to say, I now hold in my hands my project's book 🌸 It is published by Yogurt Editions in coedition with Zone (@zonepaper ). A world that is pristine, that has wiped the slate clean and is now reformed. It first needed to be lulled so that it could be healed and rebuilt. The repair was researched, planned and emplaced on new foundations. A great many would change radically, with procedures that would have to be carried out seamlessly, thus sleep was decided. The awakening occurred gradually as did the restart of the new environment. Everything ran smoothly and transition was painless. You are now facing earth under a new circumstance. You cannot comprehend it and the knowledge you had no longer applies. Your surroundings are unfamiliar and you cannot decipher if they are from the past or the future. It matters not. You live in reality, in the present, you have been given one more chance and this is a present. Just like our new world. It is a world of wonder and science, made to offer all beings liberties and happiness, health and development, peace and prosperity. Old times are over, a new era has come. Author: Pelly Mandreka @pellyscope I've entered the system. The system is called The Present. Puzzling visuals. Some fragments of a constructed reality. Simulation? Speculation? Surely there are traces of design fiction here, but it isn't obvious. Because nothing here explains itself. So many questions, but maybe the authentic one isn’t about the world she builds, as it turns back toward her. Is she imagining a different reality? Or just trying to cope with one that already feels off? THE PRESENT An actual presentation of a gifted world By Pelly Mandreka @pellyscope Opening: Friday 6 February, 19:30hrs The multimedia exhibition-installation “THE PRESENT”—the first solo exhibition by Pelly Mandreka—is largely based on the fictional content of her homonymous photographic book: the presentation of a techno-scientific utopia, into which humanity entered painlessly through a total reboot, known as the Great Sleep. In this new world, which extends far beyond the Earth’s crust, resources are unlimited thanks to the intensive exploitation of natural and artificial planets. Scientific and technological advancement has produced hybrid connections between organic and inorganic matter. Social life has become largely individualized, and conflicts have disappeared, as social organization is founded upon universal, consensual relations of servitude and roles. Imaginary totalitarian powers—such as the Party in George Orwell’s 1984, or the World State in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World—now belong solely to the realm of science fiction literature. In this new utopia, the founding principles of unlimited peace, freedom, health, progress, and prosperity are firmly established, and everything appears to be running smoothly under the management of the Authors’ techno-intellectual elite. Almost. The exhibition seeks to expand the book’s content across two supposed spatiotemporal levels. The first takes the form of an encyclopedic gallery of the achievements of this new world—an improbable documentation of the realized utopia through illustrated lemmas. On the second level, we are transported into an installed post-apocalyptic setting, where everything has collapsed and what prevails is not only the desert of the real, but also of the symbolic. What remains—as a kind of testament—is an abandoned archive of the utopia and scattered luminous elements that function more as warning signals of a catastrophe. Paradoxically, it is a catastrophe that is both already fulfilled and yet imminent: a potentiality unfolding in the present of the viewers and in relation to it.
