Last 2 weeks to pre-order our upcoming book “Over the Electric Grapevine” with an early bird discount! Link in bio. Michael E. Northrup’s (@michaelenorthrup ) most extensive body of work to date, bringing together images produced between 1972 and 2004, across more than three decades. The book moves through a poetic, oniric, and unstable movement, where images accumulate through fragmentation and discontinuity, hallucinating a broken narrative.   Northrup’s visual language is rooted in daily life, filtered through irony and a precise sensitivity to the absurd embedded within the ordinary, unfolding through an editorial approach that moves fluidly across contact sheets, experiments, in betweens of in betweens, fragments within fragments, allowing the archive to exist as a living, breathing creature.   The book is structured in chapters, Fragments One, Rehearsal of Truth, Fragments Two, The Tuning Path, Beguiling the Hours, Mind Flowers, each borrowing its title from a song and marking a shift in rhythm as the work progresses. It grows louder as it nears its end… ~ 20 x 25 cm portrait • 300 pages 4×4 Color / HUV offset printing Softcover / Swiss binding ~ Photographs by Michael E. Day 7 of the @graleycollection takeover on @archivalzone All photographs from the collection of Jeff Graley @graleycollection I have, from an early age, been fascinated by the other. I looked at, and watched them, and when it came to the pursuit of making photographs myself, I went out on the streets to capture them with my cameras. Recently, however, I lost my desire to shoot the street and its inhabitants. But I am still “taking my shots” with collecting these photos. It’s my fix. Now my studio/darkroom is filling up with boxes of photographs, floor to ceiling. It’s wonderful!!

Offset printing is the best… While the press warms up and settles into place, sheets pass through the machine accumulating unstable layers, residual traces, and unexpected juxtapositions. It becomes a kind of accidental psychedelic side trip alongside the actual book being printed, which in this case, is already pretty psychedelic. I’ve always loved these moments and thought that every book could generate another one entirely out of the strange creatures that emerge during the setup process. Later, I learned many people had already explored this. The beauty is that every print run produces completely different situations. Get your copy of “Over the Electric Grapevine” by Michael E. Northrup through the link in our bio. #thezonezine
