"Butterfly Knife" Bambu (@bambudepistola ) is one of my favorite artists and I like a lot of tracks by him. "Butterfly Knife" is one of those tracks. Every time I hear it, I get mad hype and this most recent time I heard it I wanted to do an animation to it. I wanted to do a butterfly knife flippin open and closed, so I drew it with Bam in the Asian squat. Not even sure if he could do the Asian squat (I can't lol) but I wanted it to be in the style of the series I've been doing lately.

I happened to be drawing MF DOOM when "Rock Co. Kane Flow" by De La started playing and I just had to animate what I was sketching. I wanted to mess with a walking cycle again and this fit perfectly. This beat by Jake One is bananas. Bananas I say! 🎶: De La Soul(@wearedelasoul ) ft. MF DOOM(@mfdoom ) - "Rock Co. Kane Flow" 🎹: Jake One (@jakeuno ) #delasoul #MFDOOM #jakeone

Welcome to BrickMix 4, the special Wu edition! I knew after BrickMix 2 that I wanted to do an all @wutangclan edition and that's why I held off on drawing their covers up until now. Wu-Tang was a paradigm shift. Nothing like them had come before (or after) and they changed hip-hop. As an adolescent starting to fall in love with hip-hop but also loving LEGO, comics, and kung-fu flicks, Wu-Tang was hitting on everything for me. With all the martial arts movie samples to comic book aliases, I felt seen and was hooked from the jump. They had such a big impact on me, I felt like they needed their own mix and here it is. I hope you enjoy it. 🎨🎥🎧: Me 💽: @wutangclan - Protect Ya Neck @methodmanofficial - Bring the Pain @oldirtybastardlegacy - Brooklyn Zoo Graveiggaz - Diary of a Madman @raekwon - Incarcerated Scarfaces @therealgza - Liquid Swords @ghostfacekillah - Daytona 500 @wutangclan - Triumph @lego #lego #afol #hiphop #90shiphop #boombap #rza #gza #thegenius #oldirtybastard #odb #inspectahdeck #ugod #ghostfacekillah #methodman #raekwon #mastakilla #cappadonna #wutangclan #wutang #wutangisforthechildren #wuwednesday

Aesthetically I've always loved Cyclops, especially the Jim Lee era in the early 90s. That was when comics became my whole world. If I wasn't reading them I was drawing them. Girls were the only competition for brain space lol. Personality-wise though? As the Hawaiians would say, he's "high makamaka." Filipinos would call him "mayabang." He's the guy that runs to tell the professor if someone jaywalks. Although in the "Cyclops Was Right" era he was pretty ruthless, I'll give him that. How do you feel about Scott? 💿 "Holier Than Thou" - Metallica #cyclops #xmen #scottsummers #cyclopswasright

Charlie Brown grew up in the midwest. Good kid. Loved his dog, tried his best, never caught a break. The kids clowned him constantly. Lucy kept pulling the football. Nobody ever let him just be great. So one day he packed up, left the midwest behind, and moved to New York. Changed his name. Got big. Real big. Started making moves nobody could trace back to him. Turns out all those years of being underestimated was just training. They used to call him Charlie Brown. Now they call him the Kingpin. Don't bully kids. 💿 The Notorious B.I.G. - "Ten Crack Commandments" #charliebrown #kingpin #peanuts #wilsonfisk #hiphop

Had to pair this one with Kevin Gates' "Tiger." Felt too obvious not to. Sagat was always one of my favorites. Muay thai, big brute energy, cool scar... he's got everything. The backstory is underrated too. Ryu scars him, he joins Shadaloo to get revenge on basically everyone, then eventually wakes up and realizes the whole thing was pointless. That's a full redemption arc for a fighting game character. Respect. Anyway, why is Sagat not in the Street Fighter movie?? That feels like a miss. Unless... secret post-credits character? Someone make that happen. What do you think the chances are? 💿 Kevin Gates - "Tiger" @streetfightermovie #streetfightermovie #sagat #muaythai #peabe

When Akuma walks into a fight, "Triumph" is the only track that makes sense. Dude abandoned his humanity to become the ultimate fighter — killed his own brother to get there. Wu-Tang felt right. I've always had a soft spot for villains with that kind of crazy ambition. The Shun Goku Satsu alone is one of the coldest moves in fighting game history, especially as a round ender. Didn't expect to be hyped for the Street Fighter movie but here we are — and honestly? Roman Reigns as Akuma could go crazy. What do you think? You feeling the casting? 💿 "Triumph" - Wu-Tang Clan @streetfightermovie #streetfightermovie #akuma #romanreigns #peabe

Jacob Fatu might be the most exciting thing in the WWE right now. Moveset is nasty, character is dialed in, getting better on the mic every week. Dude is built different. I want him to walk out of Backlash with that title but something tells me Roman holds on. Again. Prove me wrong, WWE. @werewolf_fatu #jacobfatu #samoanwerewolf #wwe #backlash #romanreigns

Growing up Filipino, the only athlete I could really point to at the highest level of any sport was Efren "Bata" Reyes. That was it. So watching Alex Eala do what she's doing right now hits different. All the hype got me inspired to draw and animate a fellow Filipino and this is where I ended up. Must be so cool for young Filipinos to see that kind of representation and make it feel actually possible. That's everything. You seen her play? 💿 "DNA" - Kendrick Lamar #alexeala #philippines #tennis #peabe

“Above the Clouds” Gangstarr’s “Above the Clouds” started playing and I had to grab the iPad and go straight into drawing mode. I know I’ve mentioned this a lot but I frickin love the iPad! When Moment of Truth came out in 98, my buddies and I played the shit out of that album. Obviously “You Know My Steez” was big but there were so many bangers on it. “Above the Clouds”, “Work”, “Militia”, etc. So when “Above the Clouds" played, I got inspired to draw but also reminisce over that time with the homies in 98. Being 17, crusing around in my homie Em’s Jeep because he’s the only one that had a license AND a ride lol. Blasting a bunch of different albums and mixtapes that we from Gramaphone, Just Dance, The Bassment, Hip House, just to name a few spots. Doin dumb shit like “Jackie Chan-ing” on the roof of his ride, IYKYK. What a fun time to be so naive and “free” to an extent. Not knowing what was coming your way in the not so distant future and no real responsibilities. Just trying to figure out who you were. I love how music can take you back to a time where all 5 senses can be triggered surrounding those moments. Anyway, it’s a bummer that we never got to get another Gangstarr album in Guru’s later years but at least we were blessed with what we have. RIP Guru 💿 Gangstarr - “Above the Clouds” @gangstarr #gangstarr #guru #djpremier #ripguru

"Enter the Dragon" Bruce Lee was the god growing up. As a kid, it didn't really get cooler than Bruce in my mind. My moms is really into kung fu flicks, so we watched them all and Bruce Lee was king of them all. From watching them on all the VHS tapes we had to Samurai Sundays on channel 66 in Chicago. Growing up in the 80s/90s, there wasn't much representation for Asian kids on the screen, so to see this badass whoop everyone and then drop a little philosophy on them was so dope. Growing up in a neighborhood with no other Asian kids, was both a blessing and a curse. All the black/white/latino kids assumed I knew karate or kung fu (it didn't help that I had the Asian bowl cut too), so I didn't get messed with too much (I took karate btw). Until I did get messed with, and I think I did alright. You win some, you lose some haha. I was a small kid until high school too, so the facade kinda helped, but it didn't help that I had a temper and a Napoleon complex 😂 Anyway, I've watched all of his movies countless times and taught myself to use nunchaku from watching his flicks. I'd try to repeat what he did in my living room slowly, and then do it faster outside (obviously knocking my head a couple times and that sucked). I made my first pair from a cutup broom stick, metal circular hooks, and a shoelace lol. With this illustration/animation, I wanted to draw Bruce in the mirror room and I wanted to include a dragon cause he's the dragon, duh. #brucelee #enterthedragon #belikewater #jeetkunedo

I saw an image of a payphone the other day and it got me thinking about how abandoned/unused they are nowadays. It kinda blows my mind. It's crazy to think how dependent I was on them years ago as a kid and teen. I'd make collect calls and instead of saying my name, I'd say something like "Dad, come pick me up" or "Call me back at (Payphone #)." I didn't have a cell phone until college but I had a pager up until that point and if someone paged, I wouldn't have to try hard to find a payphone. But now, they're either decayed or destroyed. Fully torn out of its receptacle or just a sad image of a dying/dead technology. In fact, if I was standing close to one and it started ringing I'd probably be creeped out and walk away lol.
