STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF OLIVER “POWER” GRANT
NEW YORK, NY — On behalf of the Grant and WuTang Family, It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Oliver “Power” Grant.
Power transitioned on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, following a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. A true fighter until the end, he was surrounded by his mother, his children, his family, and his closest friends.
Born November 24, 1970, in Staten Island, New York, the man the world knew as “Power”—and his oldest friends knew as “Pookie”—was a proud product of the Park Hill neighborhood. From those streets, he rose to become a visionary force, a pillar of the Wu-Tang family, and a global architect of culture.
It was the honor of his life to pour his love, wisdom, and brilliance into his family and his community. His impact was singular; there will never be another to take his place.
The Grant and Wu-Tang families are profoundly thankful for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from around the world. As we navigate this period of deep mourning, we kindly ask for continued respect and privacy for the family.
We send peace and blessings upon his soul. Power will always be loved, and his legacy will forever remain.
“Greatness is not what you have, but what you give.”
Additionally, the WAKE will be March 13, 2026 and the FUNERAL will be March 14, 2026 in the New York City area. We will release exact location details closer to the service dates as we finalize securing the venues.
Anyone wishing to send cards to his loved ones can mail them to:

LIQUID SWORDS ⚔️ 30th ANNIVERSARY
Limited run drop to celebrate! S-XXXL available. Merch will only be available online
Thank you all for the support throughout the years!
#GZA’s “LIQUID SWORDS” is Hip Hop in its sharpest, most cinematic form ⚔️
The entire project was produced front to back by @rza (with one exception). And nearly 30 years later, it still stands as one of the greatest displays of RZA’s production genius. Recorded in RZA’s legendary basement studio in Staten Island, “Liquid Swords” captured GZA at the peak of his lyrical mastery, backed by some of the darkest, most atmospheric beats in Wu-Tang history.
RZA crafted a brooding, film-noir soundscape that perfectly matched GZA’s chess-boxing intellect and vivid storytelling. Heavy on dusty soul samples, haunting keys, off-kilter drums, and razor-sharp kung-fu dialogue (mostly from “Shogun Assassin”, added during the final mastering stages), the production feels like a martial arts thriller set in the projects. Tracks like the title cut “Liquid Swords,” the menacing “4th Chamber,” the haunting “Cold World,” “Duel of the Iron Mic,” and “Shadowboxin’” paint pictures so vivid you can see the rain-slicked streets and steel in GZA’s flow.
This was RZA elevating his craft even further. More refined and layered than “36 Chambers”, yet still raw and basement-born. The beats loop for days, the samples are twisted into something sinister, and every element serves GZA’s precise, philosophical pen. Wu affiliates like Killah Priest, Method Man, and others drop in, but the focus stays locked on the Genius and The Abbot’s chemistry.
Even after the floods that damaged RZA’s equipment, they turned limitation into legend once again. “Liquid Swords” proved that with vision, soul samples, and Shaolin discipline, one producer and one MC could create a timeless masterpiece.
Do you feel as though RZA’s production on GZA’s “Liquid Swords” is one of the greatest bodies of Hip Hop production of all time? Let us know in the comments.
