We are incredibly proud to announce the release of Will the Great Water Remember, written for the @nationalaquarium in 2022 and 2024. Inspired by the Chesapeake Bay and and the conservation efforts of a multitude of scientists, the many hours of music included in this collection consider the meaning of communities built on the backs of elders, destructive and generative cycles of weather and water, the unexpected moments where everything changes forever, and the past, present, and future or Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. A most profound thank you to the National Aquarium, Eyes on the Bay @marylanddnr , and Horn Point Laboratory @umces_hpl for the education and access to data. @sayrahgees and @jenny_jenny_jenny , your support and advocacy have been the most powerful catalyst we have ever encountered, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This Friday, May 2nd, Jess Keyes and I will be releasing a total of 6 albums spread over about 5 hours encapsulating a multimedia work, "Will the Great Water Remember", exploring history, ecology, and conservation in the Chesapeake Bay. There's a link in my bio to our Bandcamp page for the project. 3 of these albums are edits and reinterpretations of a performance we gave at the National Aquarium for their Voyages series in 2022. The three pieces were broadcast and performed in some form or fashion over wireless headsets to an audience that could choose which channel to listen to in realtime. The first of these, "The Body is the Foundation" was composed by Jess Keyes, using overlapping layers of saxophones and granular effects to evoke the accretion of oysters on the bodies of their ancestors, the old shells becoming a home for the next generation, a lovely metaphor for community and small-c communism. I composed the second, "A Coefficient of Memory", by using water quality data (provided and very helpfully explained by the folks at Eyes on the Bay) to power a generative algorithm in SuperCollider, the ups, downs, moments of tranquility, moments of dread, and everything in between driven, timelapse-style, by the data for a particularly interesting day compacted into 3 hours. Since 3 hours of generative noise is more than most would want, I edited the "timelapse" further and then subjected each iteration of the themes to more and more extreme post processing. The title is borrowed and adapted from Thomas Pynchon's Mason & Dixon, where the evocative phrase "A Coefficient of Mercy" shows up somewhere in the first third of the novel before our astronomers even make it across the pond to the Chesapeake. The third channel and album of this set, "What Follows the Stochastic Event" is an edit of a collaborative performance using themes from both of the concurrent pieces, with Jess on saxophone and synths, and me on guitars and more synths. the intentionally obfuscated titles suggest disorder and randomness, and we would encourage you to listen to these tracks in any order you want.

A weekend full of shows! Let's go in reverse order: This Sunday, 6/18 at @thetruevinerecordshop with @myst666cierra , @tief.mp3 , and @becarefulmusic I'll be doing a solo set of half composed/half improvised tunes for synthesizer, SuperCollider, and trumpet. There's a taste of some textures in the video. This one kicks off at 8:30 pm! Saturday night is the return of ATP at @currentspace . I pretended to be Billy Corgan at the last one, and this time I'll be making my middle school dreams come true once again covering Metallica with @__prairiesky__ , @owlshots , and @revvnant . Synths and fishes! Voyages Chapter 2 is tomorrow!

Next Thursday 11/17 is Voyages Chapter 2 at @nationalaquarium . @__prairiesky__ and I have been thinking and working and coding and recording nonstop, aided by @sayrahgees and a group of patient and helpful scientists to put this remarkably ambitious (!!!) show together. There will be generative computer music created by tidal data from the Chesapeake, live wandering performers, algorithmic visuals, so, so many synthesizers, aleatoric and antiphonal soundscapes, and probably some unintentional live coding. There's an afterparty with @ezewriter and @trillnatured ! 1 - a visit to Horn Point Labs. It was a delight. 2 - little sneak preview video of the generative visuals that will accompany my piece 3 - a lil logo 4 & 5 - studio setup for rehearsal for Mvmt.
