36 miles off the front and no looking back…
Purdue road race was a blast. Got the holeshot for the memes then sat in after the first turn. I noticed my positioning was a little wonky and didn’t want to spend any extra energy especially after the surges, so I stayed content. It’s not often the tipping point of a race is the first move, but I knew that
@nascarbikes was plenty strong to do it. Once we got into tailwind section I got aero and starting riding. I initially wanted the peleton to ride with me, but when we turned right I looked back and had a gap I was surprised. I thought to myself, two decisions, fall back? Or take a chance at an early break? Once I got up to them I realized every rider I had marked was in it and I really wanted this to work. I made it a priority to keep the pace high and purposely took more turns than I maybe should have. After riding the hill for the first time I realized I didn’t have the beans to keep up and got dropped. I was faster on the flat so I got back on, but I eventually decided to fully dedicate myself to making the break stick instead of playing games. When we played cat and mouse I just pulled, and when the attacks went I knew I had to stay on so there wasn’t a split group. Eventually, I inevitably got dropped on the last hill, but super happy with my performance, earning a new 20,30,45, & 60 min power pr in the middle of a race. Super happy with my trajectory and even more blessed by God to be able to do this by His grace. Big thanks to
