In 2005 some 21 years ago I headed over to the @spacex factory which was then in El Segundo, not far from where I lived back in Los Angeles. The brief was to make a photo story on a small rocket company for Fast Company magazine including solo portraits of CEO, group shots of the team and documentary shots of the rocket engineers working. Who would have thought just how huge the company would grow. With its record breaking IPO about to take place I went to dig out the proof sheets and I found some quality C prints off medium format negative. I plan to send a copy of them to Elon’s office in Hawthorne CA with a note.

I painted this watercolor of an olive branch in Italy a couple of weeks ago.
At the time I painted it for no particular reason just to exercise the painting side of my brain. After I scanned the paper I looked up olive branch and this popped up.
An “olive branch” is both a literal branch of an olive tree and a metaphorical symbol of peace, goodwill, or reconciliation. The phrase “extending an olive branch” means to make a gesture to end a disagreement. The symbolism is historically rooted in ancient Greek and Roman traditions, and a well-known biblical story from Noah’s Ark, where a dove brought back an olive leaf, confirming that the floodwaters had receded.

I can still remember a blazing hot day in LA at his house, Ozzy dressing in black with lots of jewellery. Even the prince of darkness came outside in the backyard for a set up. What a legend. Love this quote from the @cnn slideshow who opened their life in pictures with my portrait “Looking back, I should have died a thousand times but never did”
