large-scale typesetting for 𝓽𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓮__𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼 by Izidora I LETHE.
𝓽𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓮__𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼 is a site-specific conceptual exhibition, spanning through the entire Building of the Löwenbräukunst 270 complex — from the entrance hall to the third-floor stairwell.
vivid orange “wall-glows” applied in earthy hues mark dust-prone spots, combined with 18 monotypes on mirrored silverpaper, installed along the walls. A dissonant seven-minute sound piece “disunified ensemble” echoes hourly, and mirrored cursive texts on the glass facade reflect viewers in poetic recipes.
organized by Edition VFO, curated by David Khalat. On view until July 1, 2026.

BA Diploma Project: MEGALOTOPIA [1/3] @vc.zhdk@zhdk_design
Megalotopia draws up a masterplan for a tourism utopia that aims to solve the global tourism problem. Based on an analysis of the global tourism economy, arises a grotesque-speculative vision for a better world that promises a liberating solution to the issue at hand. Within the realm of dystopian fiction, Megalotopia became a media-critical project of Ballardian qualities which comments on consumerism, control, cultural homogenization and the values of neoliberal economic structures.
Revolving around a grand “pitch” presentation two main companion assets physicalize this grotesque vision. One example is the “Handout,” a 540-page book containing the complete analysis as well as the visualization of the project itself. The handout appearing in the form of a hefty hardcover publication sporting a silver cover and an overwhelming amount of content, acts as a symbol of the monumental/megalomaniacal quality of the envisioned masterplan.

Within the realm of dystopian fiction, Megalotopia became a media-critical project of Ballardian qualities which comments on consumerism, control, cultural homogenization and the values of neoliberal economic structures.
The “Handout” is divided into two parts: the analysis of the tourism economy, with its needs as well as its problems, and the visualization of the masterplan. The analysis is heavily based on visuality as well as on statistical data that is tailored (manipulated) to strengthen the legitimacy of the project. The analysis part is quite clinical in its design, emphasizing on visual impact and highlighting the key parts of the arguments which guides the readers interpretation heavily.
The second part takes its design cues from keynote presentations and plays with bold typography and cinematic visuals. This new world is built in front of the readers eyes, and next to the key features of the island, the organization and business model are showcased to maximum capacity. Within its radical form, the project can be read as dystopian as well as utopian depending on the reader's views on technological and economic advancements. Thus it acts as one all encompassing comment on various societal, cultural and political topics.

As a second companion asset, the promotional film acts in a more public-facing role. It showcases the project's promise for a better world in a bold and cinematic way, borrowing heavily from Hollywood blockbuster aesthetics and classic TV commercial dramaturgy. The grandiose display of the features and attractions goes hand in hand with a narcissistic, self-congratulatory undertone that, once more, emphasizes the eerie quality of grand ventures like this.
Through a specific AI text-to-image (and image-to-video) workflow, the look and feel of the generated visuals tries to hover right in between “realistic” architecture visualization and fantastical imagery trying to capture the sweet spot of uncanniness that is the main through line of this project. The use of AI in this project is not about the possibilities of AI or its downsides but more of a conceptual connection between theory and design practice—the greatest hits of tourism assemble themselves into the ultimate simulacrum and through this technology become, in my opinion, a prime example of the Baudrillardian hyperreal.

"The Garden of Existence" is a didactic path through Simone de Beauvoir's "Pyrrhus and Cineas". It is an attempt to deconstruct and recontextualise complex philosophical writings by directly integrating references, additional material and glossary entries within the text.

Ammit is a serif typeface, originally based on the Fleischmann Antiqua from the 18th century. Not being a revival, Ammit uses the shapes and contrast of the Fleischmann as a base but is influenced by many other typefaces, which turns it into a sort of Frankenstein’s Monster. Named after an Egyptian goddess who wears the legs of a hippopotamus, the body of a lioness, and the head of a crocodile, Ammit is an almost unconscious rendition of research, learning and experimentation in type design.
Currently existing in a regular cut, the typeface is mainly composed for use in running text. Additionally, a stylistic set with pronounced serifs can be used to add more character if needed.

sunny dreams of iron spades
interrupted by programmed slumber
rush hour days and folded nights
traffic directed by the long dance
the grim reaper on an electric scooter
reminds me again of the yesterdays
of western ways
of desperate, strategic plays
of conversations with the mirror self
trying to quiet the id
silence its amplified polyrhythmic hum
golden, perfectly soft illusions
leave with old wooden legs
with marble arms and hearts made of brass
with lungs of rust, with minds of cold
with trails thick and damp
remaining traceable at last
so safe travels i tell you one more time
marking the ending of the ever lasting delay
and as the mind sheds one of many pins
the first summer rain reminds me
that only the mad are truly free
