The fluid, organic form not only enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal but also optimizes natural light and ventilation, ensuring a comfortable and sustainable living experience.

Inspired by the surrounding architectural character, the palette is composed predominantly of neutral brick and bronze detailing, fostering an organic, timeless and texturally rich aesthetic. Cultivating an enriching indoor-outdoor living experience, the façade integrates expansive voids that serve as generous, sheltered balconies – useable throughout the entirety of the year. Elevating this seamless connection to the landscape, floor-to-ceiling windows capture breathtaking views while infusing the façade with a dynamic sense of reflectivity.

In this Canterbury private residence, the challenge was to respect the soul of a Heritage Overlay home while introducing a bold, contemporary heartbeat. The design isn’t just an addition; it’s a seamless architectural journey from the ornate, rhythmic details of the Edwardian era to the expansive, light-filled clarity of modern living.
We leaned into the contrast of “heavy and light”—where the grounding presence of natural stone meets the ethereal curve of a helical staircase. By piercing the roofline with modern skylights, we’ve allowed natural light to act as the bridge between the two eras, highlighting the craft in every corner.
