Celebrated Americana/folk duo
@thelowestpair return on January 23rd with the stunning âAlways As Young As Weâll Ever Beâ, their 1st studio album in six years!
With their 8th album, the Lowest Pair prove that over the last dozen years together, theyâve become some of modern roots musicâs most mesmerizing, thoughtful purveyors.
Produced by Tucker Martine (The Decemberists), the 10-track album puts their stark lyricism, string-driven arrangements &raw compatibility on brilliant display.
The songs do not seek to escape lifeâs problems but instead sit with them & find the wonder in uncertainty & grace in imperfection.
While each track can exist individually, when put together they create an album that unfolds much like a spiritual metamorphosis with each song serving as a different stage in the shedding of old skins.
The Lowest Pair has questions.
The duo, made up of
@winterkendl and
@palmertlee , know that we tend to see duality as a problem. We want life to be linear, working through the dark to finally get to the light. Grief to joy, despair to hope, confusion to clarityâânot a jangly cycle we canât escape. But through their incandescent folk songs, the Lowest Pair often ask: What if we sit with the mess? What if thatâs not just more peaceful, but more magical, too?
âFare thee well and go to hell, I love you and Iâm mad at you. Itâs such a theme in my life,â Winter says, then laughs. âWishing things were different but loving all of it, too.â
The Lowest Pairâs musicianship is another beautiful testament not just to playing that breathes but playing that listens. Winter, who grew up in Arkansas but has lived in Washington State for the last two decades, & Lee, a Minnesota native, first gained attention as poetic singer-songwriters on banjos.
With an impressive seven album catalog, an adoring fan base, & years on the road, Winter & Lee have reached another artistic plateau with âAlways As Young As Weâll Ever Beâ & remind us that love, grief, joy, disappointment, failure & renewal are all part of the same beautiful cycle, one that affects us all but one that also interconnects us all.
