‼️ IT'S OUR BIRTHDAY 🎂 (and a big one) ‼️ We're kicking it off with our #Anniversary Logo Reveal, featuring OWL's original Owl! 🦉 Did you know that fifty years ago, the Young Naturalist Foundation launched OWL magazine for kids 8‒12? OWL was an acronym for “Outdoors and Wildlife,” and the magazine was designed to develop a love of the environment and scientific discovery in its readers. In the five decades since, the company became Owlkids, expanding its vision and mandate, and launching two other children’s magazines—Chickadee in 1978 and Chirp in 1997—and a book division. Since 1976, Owlkids has kept kids front and centre, creating content that engages, informs, and inspires a love of reading and learning. Throughout 2026, we’ll be honouring the many people who’ve supported our mission and helped us achieve our goal. We'll be highlighting the writers, illustrators, collaborators, and decades of readers who helped make our magazines and books a success. We'll be sharing behind-the-scenes content and giveaways. We'll also be finding fun new ways to celebrate with our amazing community. Stay tuned all year for special swag, throwback content, and an exciting birthday-themed issue of OWL magazine in May! Together with author @lornasn and illustrator @emmafitz_art , we shared stories, laughter, and insights into the creative process behind The Man In Motion picture book. As a kid, I couldn’t wait to read Owl Magazine the very moment it arrived at our front door. My love of the environment, science (and Dr. Zed) began with this children’s publication. It was a joy to celebrate Owlkids 50th Anniversary with them this evening! What an amazing team.
