“Casting Memories Loose” is my first proper exploration within the realm of filmmaking and one (if not the) most personal project I have embarked on to date. It’s still in its embryonic stage. The question that stood out to me as I approached this project was: Can you mold yourself anew?

In this (essayistic) documentary I engage in a dialogue with my father, who spent a decade of his youth — from the age of 8 to 18 — confined in a plaster cast. Through our conversations, I delve into the profound transformations of the body and self‑perception that arose from his experience and bridge that to my own. As we share our own memories, I invite viewers to witness the intersection of physical perception and its emotional ramifications. Interwoven with evocative imagery related to metamorphosis — both inspired and introduced by the words of Kafka’s novella — I embark on a poetic journey seeking to understand if our experiences can find a meeting point.

This is a subject very dear to me, but one that I have a difficult time facing, so here I began to broach it. Other that the people I credit in the video, I want to thank @franchecarvallo as her her rotoscopy workshop (re)introduced me to this beautiful technique that I exploited for these visuals.
Thank you all for listening🪳✨

tl,dr: found a letter written by my 10-year-old self, meant to be opened on the day I turned 25 (I’m a bit late) – the content did not disappoint.
I sense a preemptive build-up of nostalgia for every beautiful thing I experience before it slips away a.k.a. old friends, new friends, new places and rediscovering oneself each day one piece at a time #2024
