@annmccreath established @kikoromeo in 1996. Her daughter, @iona_mccreath , served as the house's creative director till 2025. Kikoromeo has evolved over three decades into a house with a global runway presence, including Shanghai and Portugal Fashion Weeks. Its business model has sustained its longevity for 30 years, with influence extending beyond just design. Kikoromeo has gone on to shape generations of Kenyan designers and artisans. The house's rich storytelling continues to define its luxury positioning. And its signature hand-dyed and hand-painted textiles reinforce its visual language. This phase affirms their status as a heritage house and offers a blueprint for emerging brands.

Nairobi’s uptown, particularly areas like Westlands and Lavington, is quietly reshaping streetwear culture. Here’s what we know: The youth subculture in the city’s uptown is steadily growing, and this is because of the rise in art, music, business and fashion events, especially nightlife scenes and pop-ups. These spaces are revealing a new side of the zone’s contribution to fashion: more expression, experimentation, and individualism, almost a mirror of the Youthquake movement. There’s also a growing appetite to buy as more streetwear brands emerge and more Gen Z consumers are ready to ‘cop the merch.’ Brands like @metamorphisized , @lanesteppers and @akiba_studios are among the names shaping this subculture. The movement is expanding rapidly and their Instagram pages already hint at where Nairobi streetwear is headed. The aesthetic leans heavily into sportswear mixed with urban influences, creating something that feels both global and so uniquely local. Mention a streetwear brand you’ve been eyeing in the comments💚

@bienaimesol headlined the Africa Forward Le Concert alongside acts like Youssou N’Dour and Yemi Alade, and one thing Kites noticed was his leopard-print pillbox hat. There has been a public divide on what celebrities should represent, especially after the private dinner Bien and other creatives had with France’s President Emmanuel Macron. Some think too much is placed on celebrities, while some think they play a cultural role. But Bien chose a simple hat to express his stance. Read more at the link in bio. 📸: @opiyo.is.creative

@akiba_studios are claustrophobic; boxes are spaces they were never meant to fit into. Akiba, the creative behind the namesake brand, reveals an obsession you may already know about, or perhaps one you’ve overlooked entirely.

Self-acceptance is central to @jipeapparel ’s ethos, and they remain deeply committed to it. Jipe’s marketing director spoke candidly about the discipline of understanding that not every partnership is worth pursuing, even when the opportunity or money is needed. That’s Jipe’s attitude.

The #amvca12 just concluded, and the fashion aftermath still feels surreal. Amid all the spectacle and drama, the standout looks were the ones worn with clear intent. Swipe through for some of the best-dressed celebrities. @atodds.clothing , @jipeapparel , and @akiba_studios celebrated their fifth anniversary last weekend, and the street style was strangely telepathic; it felt more like a community in sync with similar instincts. Swipe to see what people wore to the event. Photos: @opiyo.is.creative

@kipchogeeliud is a legendary record-breaker, and while his collaborations have long existed across athletic wear and automotive spaces, tech is now stepping in deeper. @huawei has unveiled the GT Runner 2 Racing Legend Edition, co-created with Eliud Kipchoge following the marathon icon’s recent visit to China. Built with serious runners in mind, the watch focuses on race guidance, pacing metrics, and high-precision GPS tracking for performance-driven training. Finished in hues inspired by the Kenyan flag, the Racing Legend Edition subtly nods to Kipchoge’s roots while reinforcing how brands continue to build products around the symbolism and grit attached to his image.
