I know that Forty Five Friday is traditionally a celebration of little records.
But not all 7 inches spin at 45 rpm (Brazil, we see you) and not all 12 inches spin at 33 1/3 rpm (UK, we see you).
So here’s one of those big record that plays at 45.
Francine McGee’s “Delirium” is the (superior) instrumental b-side version of the vocal tune “Feeling So Good.”

Front garden is ready for the season.
Most plants came back, except for the hostas bordering my yard, which died off over the past two years.
(My theory is that they were done in by shovelling snow mixed with road salt from the sidewalk and front path and thoughtlessly tossing it on the garden).
So I bought some new hostas when I picked up my mulch.
Hoping for favourable weather next weekend to tackle my back gardens.

It’s my niece Sasha’s birthday today. First and foremost.
It is also coincidentally @roncarterbassist ’s 89th birthday today.
My discogs tells me that I own 114 records on which he appears.
Only 1900+ more to complete his discography.

Sunday morning session before I get into my gardens.
The improbably narrow confluence of circumstances that allowed Earth to bear life, then sentient creative life, is near miraculous.
I say near miraculous because we can explain the chain of events through scientific analysis and the laws of physics.
But I think the fact that a benevolent and omniscient god didn’t design us makes life even more special.
We have free will but also a responsibility to each other - those “others” including people, animals, plants, waters, soils, air.
Don’t waste your life or the lives of others pursuing wealth and power. How myopic and ungrateful.
Go plant a garden instead. Let the bees pollinate the flowers and birds eat the wind-fallen fruits. Then invite some neighbours over to share the bounty at harvest time.
Another Earth may be out there, somewhere, some time. But we can remake another - more harmonious - Earth here, today.
It starts by realizing our place in the cosmos.

I’ve been listening to this album on repeat for several days in a row.
@birdapres is a brilliant lyricist. His bars are pregnant with absurd metaphors, sublime imagery, left-field pop culture references mashed with a philosophy PhD dissertation, humble humanity, rapid fire internal rhyme schemes and an unfathomable vocabulary wielded with a rapier wit.
Dude brings a hook like a goat herd.
A goat herd?
He’s also managed to assemble a coterie of fellow wordsmiths of equal mettle.
And @djkrec ’s production? Wicked. It’s a relaxed but assured west coast ambience, like PUTS or Ugly Duckling, mixed with east coast scratched-sample collage choruses and cracking drums. Bopping jazz samples you haven’t heard before and dynamic song structures. Fully realized instrumental compositions. None of the half-baked dross being passed off as beats these days. Love the change-up on Confluence. Two-for-one tune.
I don’t know hip hop like some of y’all. My frame of reference is narrow and my touch points dated.
But I know good music and this is it.

Only picked up a few LPs at yesterday’s Downtown Record Show.
But they were all quality albums and only one upgrade. Hurray for “new” music.
Bobby Hutcherson’s “Components” was one of them.
My daughter’s name is Bea, so I’m legally obligated to buy any record with the standard “Little B’s Poem.”
Despite already owning several versions, I oddly didn’t have the album that started it all.
Now I do.
