Last week’s speaker call for the Our Power Summit turned into something I didn’t expect.
I accidentally joined the Spirituality panel breakout and decided to stay and listen in.
That day, I'd been feeling heavy from the pressure, the pivots, the finances, all of it. It was an “are we making the right decision?” kind of day.
So I said it out loud.
And the room shifted.
As we enter into summit day today, I remind myself of this moment, of this feeling, of this confirmation and affirmation that the work we are doing is needed and divinely ordered.
We pray travel mercies for everyone coming into town today (and everyone navigating Houston Spring Break/Rodeo traffic 🥴🥴). I'm a day late, but I couldn't let it pass.
Yesterday was the birthday of two of the most important people behind the @ourpowersummit — our Operations Manager, Jasmine @right_hand_support_ , and our Executive Assistant, Jennifer @jhold1120 . Together, they made up two-thirds of the core Summit team, and they both taught me so much.
I've spent most of my career giving everything I have to other people's visions. I know what it looks like to be all-in for someone else's dream. What I didn't fully know, until this Summit, was what it felt like to be on the receiving end of that.
Jasmine believed in me and the work we're doing from day one. Over five months of building, planning, and more than a few all-nighters, she brought a level of care, investment, and professional excellence to the vision that money alone couldn't buy. We went from virtually strangers to sisters, and I'm so grateful to bear witness to her brilliance and firey spirit.
Jennifer joined the team in the final stretch yet didn't hesitate for a second. She came in just as our energy was running low, assessed the situation, and carried us to the finish line...with grace!
The main thing I learned from working with J&J is that there's something very special in creating something when the people around you believe in it as much as you do... Not because they have to. Because they genuinely want to see it succeed and because they are giving and talented and just great people to be around.
Please join me in wishing a very happy belated birthday to two exceptional women. I'm grateful for you both more than I can properly express. You deserve every celebration, every recognition, and very good thing coming your way 💫

A month ago, we made history.
On March 20th, we kicked off the inaugural Our Power Summit in Houston, and Day 1 set the tone for everything we came to do.
Mayor Pro Tem @marthatatum opened the floor with an impassioned keynote that reminded us why leadership grounded in community is paramount. Then @jerrymadisonjr — actor, creator, and co-founder of @blackcinemaclubhtx (whose inaugural film festival just wrapped this weekend, btw 👏🏾) — led us through The Art of Strategic Networking and proved that the room is the resource.
From there, the Business & Career panel challenged us to build, protect, and thrive. The Wellness panel asked us to heal, not just hustle. And the day closed with a keynote from @kimcoles that had the whole room ready to activate everything they already have.

After presenting at the Our Power Summit, I’ve been reflecting on this:
Community isn’t something that appears just because the mission is strong or the platform is growing. It’s built over time, in the small ways people learn they can trust you.
For me, that’s meant showing up for what matters, being real about who I am, keeping my word, protecting my energy, and doing the inner work.
And I’ve learned an audience and a community are not the same.
We really do need each other.
It’s been almost two weeks, and I’m still trying to put into words what it meant to see the Our Power Summit come to life.
What started as an idea became a beautiful room full of brilliant, honest, generous people who showed up ready to learn, pour, connect, and build.
There was no fluff or empty inspiration. Just tools. Truth. Community. Possibility.
