Took a brief break from budget to meet with the absolutely unbelievable, wonderful, generous team at Outside The Frame. They are a nonprofit that works with unhoused youth to teach them filmmaking and photography skills so they can get connected to the arts job market. We got to hear their stories, I got to share my own about becoming homeless and how I got through that, and we watched some of the funniest, most well produced indie films I’ve seen in a long time.
I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for the people doing this work, and how much beauty, joy, and talent is lost when we abandon our neighbors.
I look forward to partnering with @otfpdx in the years to come 💙

It is auspicious that we got to meet her again this weekend, after our 10th anniversary gala, at a screening of @stealthisstoryplease at @cinema21_portland . It is playing there through May 5th. We're beaming with pride about Haven Wheelock who received the Harm Reduction Superhero Award from Outside The Frame on Thursday Night! Nearly 400 people packed Hollywood Theatre for the "We Could Be Heroes" event and presentation of films, hosted by Nili Yosha. The award was presented by former Outside In Clinic Director (and current OTF Board President) John Duke. Congratulations, Haven!
tonight meant everything fr. being behind the camera at @otfpdx 10th anniversary screening was one of those moments that just clicks in your brain like yeah… this is what i’m supposed to be doing. the energy in the room was unreal so much love, so many genuine people, and such a strong, inclusive community. it honestly inspired me so much to keep going with my own films and get more involved with OTF because this is the kind of space i wanna grow in.
also i’m so proud of my friend @p.l.e.t.o_ his films were actually so amazing and i’m really glad i finally got to see them. can’t wait to see what he does next fr 🖤
thank you @otfpdx + @hollywoodtheatr for creating something so special. if you’ve ever thought about getting into film, this is definitely a place you wanna be. tonight was everything.
