It’s Mental Health Awareness Week and this year’s theme is ‘Take Action’🧠 The world we live in can have an impact on our mental health, and for those working in policing and other emergency services there are unique challenges. It’s fast-paced, high-pressure and lots of officers and staff see, hear and deal with very difficult things. We spoke to some of our colleagues about what they do to look after their own mental health. If you work in policing there are lots of resources available via Oscar Kilo, the National Police Wellbeing Service. Or you can find more resources here ➡️ .uk/our-work/public-engagement/mental-health-awareness-week Let us know what action you take in the comments below⬇️

“Asking for help is a strength.” @bedspoliceuk Inspector and Wellbeing Lead Ben Dimmock shares why speaking to somebody if you need support is one of the bravest things you can do this @mentalhealthfoundation #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. Thank you to Ben for speaking so openly and honestly about #MentalHealth.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we know that not all trauma looks the same. For those working in law enforcement and child exploitation investigations, exposure can come in different ways, whether in real-time incidents, through digital evidence, or by supporting victims and families. Understanding how different types of exposure impact you is an important step in protecting your wellbeing. Improving self-awareness, preparing for exposure, and accessing the right support can make a meaningful difference over time. Through CRC’s first ever wellbeing program, in partnership with @oscarkilo_uk , we’re sharing resources this month designed specifically for investigators navigating this work. Special thanks @timtebowfoundation for supporting the mental health of those on the frontlines. If this is your work, these resources are for you. Being aware of how you prepare for, manage, and process exposure to trauma matters. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #OfficerWellness #BehindTheBadge

We recently shared a quote from a parent worried about their child who's just joined policing – and already seen a lot. The post really resonated. There was a lot of empathy. But there was a lot of resignation too: 🔵 “That’s just how it is.” 🔵“Get on with it.” 🔵“Leave now.” These aren’t isolated comments. They’re real opinions, shaped by lived experience. And they’re an important reminder of the culture shift that’s still needed in policing. That’s why we work so hard behind the scenes to ensure wellbeing isn’t an afterthought, but an integral part of policing. From helping forces meet their legal duties around wellbeing to practical tools to help embed it from the ground up. We also work at every level with the @policechiefs and @college_policing to make sure wellbeing is built into national reform, not bolted on afterwards. There’s more to do but the objective is clear: helping policing look after its people, and creating a culture where seeking support and taking care of your wellbeing is normal – whether you’ve been in policing six weeks or thirty years.
