Digging for records, for me, started with breakbeat hardcore/jungle/drum n bass. Hunting down the original tunes morphed into digging into the sample sources and chasing down the breaks and beyond.
Reinforced Records is at the foundation of that scene, instrumental in the development of the music and helping launch the careers of many pivotal producers.
At the head of the unit was 4hero — Marc Mac, Dego, Gus & Ian.
4hero’s second album, Parallel Universe, was released in 1994, with Marc Mac and Dego at the controls. The album opened the door to what Jungle/DnB was capable of in the full-length medium, with Marc and Dego fusing futuristic breakbeat programming, synthesised string-work, experimental sampling and their knowledge of early Soul-Jazz Fusion to make this classic, which marked the transition from jungle to drum & bass and forged the route forward.
