Behind every perfect architectural photo is a mountain of unseen work. We’re all used to seeing the flawless interiors and stunning facades that dominate architecture feeds. But those polished images are just the final chapter of a much longer, more complex story. Architecture isn’t just about the destination; it’s about the process of getting there. It’s the result of: • Exploration: Dozens of sketches and iterations to find the right solution for a site. • Refinement: Countless hours of technical documentation to ensure every detail works. • Collaboration: Constant dialogue with consultants, suppliers, and manufacturers. • Craftsmanship: The hands-on expertise of contractors and skilled tradespeople who bring the vision to life. We want to pull back the curtain and show you what actually goes into the making of a building. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a series of posts exploring these different aspects of architectural practice, and acknowledging the contribution of all of these other participants to the final outcomes. Originally belonging to George Armytage, a key figure South Yarra’s heritage landscape, Armytage House has seen various uses over time. Once a school and later a council building, it underwent a restoration by the new owners alongside WMK Architecture and Indre.
