Your 2026 ORC Sailing World Champions…Andy Berdon’s TP52 SUMMER STORM.
I was first introduced to Andrew’s program by Stu Bannatyne in 2024 for the Vineyard Race on Long Island Sound.
Two years and 7 events (two of them ORC title runs) later…we made our way to Sorrento, Italy for a final shot at the ORC World Championship.
14 teams with the best sailors from around the world.
5 grueling days of an offshore and inshore mixed format.
The team had some amazing early success and came out to a strong lead…
Only to fall behind into third for the final day.
It all came down to three boats - win and win a world title.
Lose and go home second or third best.
It was a great reminder of why we race.
It’s what you dream of as a kid.
The game on the line. The buzzer shot. The bottom of the 9th down a run with two outs and a full count.
But this was OUR sport and our moment.
It was amazing to watch the focus, effort, drive and resilience of this team.
I have so much gratitude.
For Andy. For Stu.
For the Summer Storm program and team.
For every single team member. Past and present.
An incredible journey.
An incredible result.
A memory and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Sometimes I feel like I need to pinch myself.
What an incredible life and world we live in.
That moments like this can exist.
@andrewberdon congratulations.
Nobody deserves this more than you.
Three class wins. Two more on the podium. The 2026 @orcsailing World Championship in Sorrento delivered world-class racing across four competitive classes, and North-powered teams were all over the results sheet.
Ran, owned by Niklas Zennström took the Class A title, defending the world championship won in Tallinn last year. Julian Somodi’s Katara claimed Class B with two race wins on the final day. In Class C, the world title went to Luigi Buzzi’s Robe da Mat, with a dominant final day. And in a knife-edge Class 0 battle that went down to the wire, Mauro Gestri’s TP52 Vudu and @r.lacorte ’s wallyrocket51 RocketNikka (@nikkaracing ) took second and third in a fiercely contested fleet.
“The regatta stayed incredibly close right up until the final day, and in the end the teams that sailed best on the water came out on top, even on corrected time,” noted Alessio Razeto, North expert and Team Manager of RocketNikka.
“This was one of the biggest and most technically demanding ORC World Championships in recent years,” added Daniele Cassinari, CEO of North Sails Italy. “North-powered teams delivered outstanding performances across all four classes, and huge credit goes to the sailors, designers, and service teams behind these results.”
Attention now turns to the IMA Maxi European Championship (21–28 May), with an outstanding Maxi fleet lining up across multiple divisions for the @tregolfisailingweek #offshore race followed by a series of high-intensity inshore racing, all in the stunning waters off Sorrento.
Congratulations to all the teams. 🏆

Back-to-back ORC World Champions. 🏆🔥⛵
Sweden’s 𝗥𝗔𝗡 (Carkeek 40+) of Niklas Zennström successfully defended the ORC Class A World Championship title in Sorrento after another remarkably consistent week of racing on the Gulf of Naples.
As the only defending 2025 ORC World Champion from Tallinn, Estonia, competing at the event, RAN once again proved its strength across offshore, coastal, and inshore racing formats, securing the title ahead of a highly competitive international fleet.
💬 “It’s been a fantastic championship with very close racing and a great atmosphere on and off the water,” said Niklas Zennström after racing.
