Tides, Tactics And Tradition 🌊⛵️
The 2026 RORC North Sea Race gets underway on Friday 15 May, sending an international fleet from Harwich to Scheveningen across 165nm of demanding offshore racing.
First raced in 1931, this historic North Sea classic remains one of the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s longest-standing offshore races, linking the UK and the Netherlands through a course shaped by strong tides, sandbanks, commercial traffic, wind farms and shifting weather.
Boats To Watch 👀
⛵ Van Uden — The Ker 46 from Rotterdam Offshore Sailing Team, bringing proven offshore pace and experience to the fully crewed fleet.
⛵ Checkmate — Michel Dorsman, the 2024 overall winner, returns with his new MAT 1070 and will be one to follow closely.
⛵ Bellino — Rob Craigie’s Sun Fast 3600, racing double-handed with RORC Commodore Deb Fish after overall IRC victory in 2025.
⛵ Il Corvo — Astrid de Vin and Roeland Franssens line up in the JPK 1030, setting up a strong Anglo-Dutch double-handed battle.
⛵ Jetpack — Second overall last year, Diederik Forma’s JPK 1030 returns looking to go one better.
⛵ RORC Griffin & Tigris — Two British Sun Fast 3600s making the delivery from the Solent to Harwich, both also entered in this year’s Round Britain & Ireland Race.
A true test of tactics, seamanship and offshore experience — with hard-earned silverware waiting in Scheveningen. 🏆

Griffin’s Round Britain & Ireland team kicked off their first race of the season with the Cervantes Trophy, sailing 110nm from Cowes to Le Havre, France 🇫🇷
The team was led by skipper Nuala Sellwood. It was super tricky and light conditions throughout the race, with strong tides and the wind completely dying just before the finish line. As a result of this and much deliberation, we ended up retiring from the race. We had a fantastic weekend and learnt lots, thank you to everyone involved!
Our next event is the Myth of Malham on the 23rd May 🚀
