Looking up along the soft, curved faces of the rendered helical stair, drawing the eye toward natural light filtering in from the first floor windows. A quiet moment of form and light, Kirsten Johnstone Architects vision coming together in this Balwyn North home.
A solid steel helical stair carves through the structure, drawing light deep into the concrete basement. With the geometry set, the focus shifts upward — framing the home and establishing its presence.
The calm before the lift.
A fabricated steel plate helical stair, set out in pieces and ready to come together in its final solid form. Positioned between heritage and new — a clean, deliberate connection.
A precise install, where coordination and execution are critical.
Welcoming everyone back to an exciting new year . Off-form concrete continues to play a role in our next project, pairing a heritage homestead rich in Australian character with a considered adaptation shaped over years. @relagroup_ x @archtistic_ x @naladesign x @juliecrowedesign
PROJECT - DENMAN

Two residences, one site. Designed with sensitivity and precision, this Glen Iris project looks through a new lens for multigenerational living.
“Every decision was made to feel thoughtful and lasting, creating spaces that feel significant, tranquil and connected to nature.”
We loved styling these homes — letting the architecture set the rhythm, and curating moments that feel instinctive, lived-in, and enduring.

A home of striking structure and softened edges.
A space that called for considered contrast. The off-form concrete gave us a strong base to work from - bold, clean, and grounded. We layered in curved forms, soft textures and tonal warmth to bring balance and life to the space.
A favourite kind of brief - strong structure, layered character.

The soft, pale tones of our Glacial Oak timber flow seamlessly throughout the interior of this contemporary Glen Iris home. From striking doorway architraves to staircase treads, and soaring ceiling details, its subtle grain and light finish bring warmth to the overall design while maintaining that crisp, modern aesthetic.
Outside, IronOak takes centre stage with its exceptional durability and rich character. The vertical battens and ceiling cladding that crown the outdoor kitchen showcase this timber's natural beauty.
Brought together by @orbisconstructions and @naladesign , this home perfectly demonstrates how thoughtfully selected timber can complement contemporary architecture - creating spaces that feel connected to nature while standing the test of time.
