Berlin‘s mighty @onomagemo and their Malian Tuareg friend @ahmedagkaedy finished their short German tour last night at @jazzwerkstattpeitz with a truly magical concert, blurring the edges between desert blues, jazz, psychedelia, and krautrock in a truly unique and mind-bending fashion.
@ Onom Agemo & The Disco Jumpers feat. Ahmed Ag Kaedy @onomagemo@ahmedagkaedy
From the Sahara to 069 @onom_agemo & Malian Tuareg rock poet @ahmedagkaedy weave hypnotic grooves, desert riffs & spacey jazz into their album Common Stars. Rooted in stories of freedom & identity, their sound rides from trance-like rhythms to shimmering sax & guitar heat. Don’t miss this rare chance to see them live in Frankfurt this Sunday before @etrandelair … what a lineup, huh?
Out today: the 7“ single from our upcoming album „Common Stars“ – featuring the tracks „Akalin“ and „Shound Nak“.
Akalin - Home (My land)
Tenere, tenere as Akalin
Wartsamaskilah ayhan adouniata
The desert, the desert my dear home
I wouldn’t exchange her for anything.
Tenere, tenere dalat tahouskat
Es-han missaus atarfut sulh iglaien
Desert, my desert, turned green and beautiful
Her inhabitants rejoice, and hold the desert in their honest hearts.
Tamadrid, tamadrid tan tenere
Tunna jawan marhaba dach tenere ida tarzedet
Youth, the youth of the desert welcomes you,
In their sweet desert.
Shound nak - Like me
Asi hi tokayet tened tamahat
amarz tidjarawat iyen shunt neg
When you passed by me, you said you were searching.
You won’t find someone like me.
Kay war tarhed yenyak atikfa yallah
Mars tidjawarat awa tarhed kay
You don’t love the happiness that god gave to your brother,
That is why you don’t find happiness of your own.
Tarne teneyallah waden tinawan
Awa hadjrowan yallah en dach
Power belongs to god, it is not yours
All there is belongs to god.
Onom Agemo and the Disco Jumpers feat. Ahmed Ag Kaedy!
We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Ahmed Ag Kaedy this summer.
Our new single will be released on July 18th, followed by the album „Common Stars“ on Agogo Records on August 8th. It features five tracks created through a collective process. Ahmed describes the music as a meeting of ‚space jazz‘ with the rhythm of the camel.
His lyrics, in poetic language, tell of the life of his people, the Kel Tamasheq, and their deep connection to the desert. They are about home, alienation, transience, and the pain of political conflict and injustice.
You can hear us live:
August 7th, Viechtach
August 8th, Saxstall Pohrsdorf
August 9th, Dots Göttingen
August 10th Jazz Montez Frankfurt
August 14th: Frau Korte Erfurt
August 15th: Jazzwerkstatt Peitz
We’ll keep you updated.
