Etran de L’Aïr (or “stars of the Aïr region”) welcomes you to Agadez, the capital city of Saharan rock. Playing together for over 25 years, consisting of brothers and cousins all born in the small neighbourhood of Abalane. Their dynamic repertoire of hypnotic solos and sun schlazed melodies are sure to get you moving. Follow the band and learn more about their amazing story!
Exactly one year ago, I had the chance to meet and work with someone whose story and work deeply shaped the way I imagined my life in music - Christopher Kirkley - and to film the electrifying @etrandelair for @sahelsounds .
This is just a small fragment from a few days we spent together when @etrandelair were on tour with @kinggizzard and stopped in Barcelona, where I was based at the time.
Although we’re still waiting for some field recordings to arrive from Niger (inshallah they come soon!) for me to weave together the material I filmed into a fuller piece, I wanted to start sharing a little preview from an intimate rooftop session we organized together.
Much love and desert riffs to you all.

#dontmiss
Translating to “stars of the Aïr region” Nigerien rock band @etrandelair offer a constellation of psych-infused sound.
Raised on one guitar and a calabash drum, the early days of the band swiftly went by with them hauling gear to transform local weddings into electrifying rock celebrations.
Due to the targeted visa ban, the band was recently forced to cancel their USA tour dates, so Sled Island is more than stoked to welcome their Saharan rock.
Stacked with cordial vocals and dueling guitars, this is the sound of resilience and harmony at full voltage.
Catch Etran de L’Aïr on Friday, June 19 at @dickensyyc .
