Ches Smith x moers festival 2026
Ursprünglich aus Sacramento, Kalifornien, ist Ches Smith ein Schlagzeuger, Perkussionist und Komponist mit Sitz in New York. Seit den frühen 2000er Jahren hat er mit zahlreichen Künstler*innen aus verschiedenen Musikrichtungen zusammengearbeitet, darunter Marc Ribot, Tim Berne, John Zorn, Darius Jones, David Torn, John Tchicai, Nels Cline, Mary Halvorson, Trevor Dunn, Terry Riley, Kris Davis, Dave Holland, Secret Chiefs 3, Xiu Xiu, Good for Cows, Theory of Ruin und Mr. Bungle.
Als Bandleader veröffentlichte er neun Alben, die seine Kompositionen und die kuratierte Ensemblearbeit präsentieren. Zudem ist er ein engagierter Schüler der haitianischen Vodou-Trommeln und tritt seit über einem Jahrzehnt sowohl in religiösen als auch in folkloristischen Kontexten in New York und Haiti auf.

Aliya Ultan, Ches Smith, Gregg Belisle-Chi, Tim Berne, and Trevor Dunn played their first show a couple of weeks ago, but I missed it. Glad I made it to their supercharged set at Lowlands on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
