The recent report on the risk of AMOC collapse feels like it’s gone scarily under the radar.. even in climate circles… Am I missing something?!? This isn’t a ā€˜that’s interesting, back to business as usual’ read. Last week I chatted with the author of this report @rvwesten with our brilliant campaigner Will for @parentsforfuture_uk about how close we are to this catastrophic change in our earth’s systems. This report confirms the AMOC is at risk of collapse as soon as next year. (This is the system of currents that helps regulate global climate). And it would be at such speed that adaptation would be impossible. Please do take a moment to read the slides in what this would mean for humanity. Roger H outlines it very clearly as always. I’m totally bemused about the lack of a global reaction and calls for immediate systemic action… I hope more folk start asking why the press aren’t covering this. Why there’s no immediate global conference of leaders called. šŸ’ Please do tag someone you think might not have seen the report. Read up and get involved in pushing for action! How I’d love for it to be compulsory for every board member and shareholder of Shell, BP, Equinor, Ithacha… to have a test on their knowledge of this and other tipping points. Every MP and Councillor. Every business leader… journalist for the right wing oligarch owned press. If you are looking for some like-minded people to campaign with, come and check out @parentsforfuture_uk @stopcambo #forfuturessake #ClimateAction #Act4ourkids #NoNewOilandGas #amoccollapse #stoprosebank #gulfstream

🌿 On World Soil Day, this is a gentle reminder that soil is not only essential for our food ecosystems and our health, it’s an unsung hero in our efforts to protect our liveable climate. Storing more carbon than the atmosphere, and all of the world's plants and forests combined. It is truly one of the most valuable natural resources and we need to protect it and restore it, as worryingly over 40% of the world’s soil is degraded. Put simply we need to keep our soil healthy to ensure our crops, our health and our climate stay healthy. Let’s push our leaders to legally safeguard our soil through our agricultural practices, and standards of imported food and agricultural products. Eating more plant-based food is also massively impactful 🌱 Stat: @SoilAssociation #WorldSoilDay #WorldSoilDay2023 #ProtectNature #SustainableLiving #Eco #ClimateAction #Organic #compost #NoDig

Some good news?! Oh YES! Yesterday’s King’s Speech included the introduction of the Energy Independence Bill. This means that the legislation to end new oil and gas licensing is on its way. Many organisations and campaigners including at @parentsforfuture_uk have been working on this for a LONG time - and we have a WIN! There’s still more to fight for - the dirty energy giants will continue lobbying, and while the government did commit to banning fracking and coal, the speech didn’t include anything on nature protection or water ownership - huge needs for life on earth. If you haven’t yet found your place in the climate and nature movements, reach out - we need you. #kingsspeech #climateaction #oilandgas #positiveenergy #goodnews

This might be the most important film we will ever have chance to see at the cinema. We warmly invite you to join us at @curzonclevedon Sunday at 11am for a screening of the Peoples Emergency Briefing #ForFuturesSake Please spread the word. Invite your friends, neighbours, colleagues, community leaders, head teachers and business leaders. Why not pop them a message in the chat! And if you can’t make it. Find a screening near you over at @nebriefing or neBriefing.org #NationalEmergencyBriefing

Okay. We’ve processed. Now we organise! We choose hope and a liveable planet. Building something better is imperative. But it has to be all hands on deck. Join us! At @ParentsForFuture_uk or wherever you feel drawn to volunteer. It’s time to plant the seeds, support our neighbours, demand the justice. Apathy and despair is a privilege. And it isn’t going to keep our communities together or those who seek to divide us out of no 10! #UKElections #VoteHope #Organise #ForFuturesSake

Don’t forget to get out and vote tomorrow! These elections truly matter. For our pockets, for our stable climate, for our communities, for humanity and nature. Not all the parties feel keeping this brilliant planet liveable is a priority. That’s not a big ask folks. āœ… Make sure they tick that box before you tick theirs. #Vote #VoteHope #vote2026 #Climatecrisis #communitylove

Ridiculously good news incoming… Almost 60 countries have agreed to work on roadmaps to phase out coal, oil and gas at the Santa Marta climate conference in Columbia! This could be the beginning of something pretty beautiful! #HopeInAction #FossilFreeFuture #fossilfueltreaty #climatecrisis

As parents, grandparents and caregivers, we all want a safer future for our children. One of the biggest barriers to an effective transition away from fossil fuels is the failure to respect intergenerational equity and the continued use of public funds to protect fossil fuel industries instead of safeguarding children’s rights. General Comment No. 26 of the Committee on the Rights of the Child makes it clear that governments have a legal duty to protect children and adolescents from environmental harm caused by the fossil fuel-driven climate crisis. Children’s rights must come before the interests of polluting industries. Today there is no global mechanism to regulate the production of fossil fuels. While there is scientific consensus on the need to phase them out, and some countries are taking steps to reduce emissions, there is still no clear global plan for how to manage that phase-out. This failure puts children and future generations at risk. Planning smart and planning safe means regulating coal, oil, and gas production so the harms of excessive emissions are not pushed onto those who did the least to cause them - the world’s children. Ā  The Fossil Fuel Treaty is a mechanism to achieve all this. We have to get off this horror fossil fuel rollercoasteršŸŽ¢ where the last bit of the journey is a steep, fast ride into irreversible climate breakdown! The Jackdaw gas field would do next to nothing to reduce the UK’s current vulnerability to global energy price shocks. It simply isn’t going to bring our bills down! It would produce such an insignificant amount of energy. And as usual in the UK, the price of the gas would be set by international markets. Plus sold on international markets. Ie We DO NOT just magically get this energy because it’s from the North Sea!!!!!! Even my kids understand that investing in new fossil fuel projects is wildly ridiculous. Homegrown renewable energy will bring down our bills and our emissions. Labour know this. They got a heck of a lot of votes based on their stance on new fossil fuel projects. And those votes will be the only thing moving away from them faster than that fossil fuel roller coaster. Please tag your MP if this is how you feel! It’s time for our leaders to stand up to the fossil fuel lobby. For our kids. #ForFuturesSake Get more involved in creating a safer, fairer environment for everyone at @parentsforfuture_uk #StopJackdaw #NoNewOilandGas #AnotherWorldIsPossible stoprosebank

Renewables are cheaper, cleaner and more secure. It’s time to end our reliance on volatile fossil fuels for good. For all kids. For all of us! #renewableenergy #climatecrisis #forfuturessake #positiveenergy justtransition

This week we took a heavy dose of parent power to Parliament - holding a climate breakfast for MPs with a difference. Three generations of @parentsforfuture_uk families came to Westminster from Sheffield to Hove, the Dales to East Dulwich. Three generations with one message: approving the Rosebank oil field is fundamentally incompatible with keeping our children (and all children) safe. It won’t bring down our bills or improve our energy security, because most of Rosebank’s oil is destined for export, but giving Rosebank the green light will harm every generation. There were kids on the floor, small ones colouring pictures for their MPs, and teens and grandparents asking for support to stop this oil field once and for good! Please do encourage your MP to sign the Rosebank pledge!! .uk/pledges and check out @stopcambo #stoprosebank #climateaction #parentsforfuture
