📣 I’m throwing a launch party and you’re all invited 🙌🎉 If you know me, you know I basically live at gigs… and don’t even try to contact me during festival season because I will be in a field somewhere with no signal, dancing all day in a tent ❤️‍🔥 Live music is life 🎶 So there was no way I was going to do @routes_radicals without some kind of gig element 🎸 But something I notice again and again? The same kinds of line-ups. The same lack of representation. And not nearly enough thought about access 😳 🖤 🩷 Introducing: GIVE ’EM THE BOOT 🤘✊🏾 My new DIY punk cabaret party as part of @routes_radicals — built around the kind of scene I actually want to see. I’m teaming up with legends @signaturebrewe8 — who are not only London’s largest independent brewery but also champions of diverse and underrepresented talent in their own right — to put on gigs that celebrate the voices that should already be centre stage, but too often aren’t. This is all about platforming artists so often overlooked — women, LGBTQIA+ people, disabled and neurodivergent performers, artists of colour — across punk, ska, hardcore, plus drag, burlesque and more 👑🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Not as a one-off. Not as a token gesture. Just… as something that should be normal 🫶🏾 And just as importantly — it’s about the audience too. I want this to be a space where people feel comfortable showing up as themselves 🩷 Where access isn’t an afterthought, and where I’ll actively make the gigs work for as many people as possible 🙏 Currently I’m looking at having live captions, sign language translators, audio descriptions and more — and I’ll always be open to learning and improving on things 🙏 The aim is simple: to create something joyful, political, creative — and genuinely inclusive. Which also might be chaotic but at its heart fun, inviting, and ultimately intentional about who it’s for and how it feels to be in the room. Happy International Women’s Day 💜 🚨 I have been quietly working on something for months and today felt like the perfect moment to introduce my new passion project… 📣 I’m officially coming out of journalist and blogger retirement this year to launch @routes_radicals — a music, lifestyle and culture zine + podcast 🎉 It’s written and produced from my perspective as a proud British Indian, queer, neurodivergent, Sikh woman in the punk scene ✊🏾🎶🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🇮🇳🇬🇧🤘🫶🏾☮️🏁🪯🩷☠️🎉 My goal is to approach things through an intersectional lens — showcasing artists and voices from underrepresented backgrounds, and exploring topics that affect me and others in our community. I’m excited to get back to interviewing bands and reviewing gigs, but I also want to go deeper. I want to explore the culture around the music — the people, the politics, the stories and the scenes that shape it. Most of all, I want to spotlight voices that don’t often get a platform — something I’ve experienced myself throughout my life. Liv hosts and curates anarchist cabaret and community project @howtocatchapigacab , edits its community paper The Pig Catcher, and is also venue coordinator at @piehouse.coop — a politically active music and arts workers’ co‑op in Deptford. If that wasn’t enough, Liv has written two sell‑out plays, a poetry collection, and many angry emails! Alongside this, Liv has organised for over 10 years in feminist direct action spaces, worked in the UK’s only LGBTIQ+ domestic violence refuge, and is part of the core organising team at @bandsboycottbarclays — the campaign that successfully removed @barclaysuk from all UK festivals in 2024 🙌 Liv stands in solidarity with Palestine and all movements resisting oppression 🇵🇸✊ I first saw Liv perform a few years back at a @theladfund event — it was the kind of performance that grabbed the room and didn’t let go. I left feeling energised, challenged, and very sure I wanted to work with them someday. Nowadays they spring onto the stage with a ukulele, 80s synths, and more costume changes than Diana Ross, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift combined, lampooning as they swoon over punk classics. Our own friendship began in the early of hours one night while both attending a club event at @mcrpunkfest many years ago. @collinclaychace came up to me asked me if I was a Pisces (he was correct!). A fast friendship began and I told him my idea for @routes_radicals and Give ‘Em The Boot, and we talked about eventually collaborating one day. Thanks so much for the interest, enthusiasm and support for @routes_radicals and Give ‘Em The Boot so far ❤️🙏 Honestly, I find it nerve-wracking putting it all out there. I feel particularly vulnerable launching this because, as someone from a minority background, I’ve been shut down and had my ideas dismissed more times than I can remember. So putting something out into the world — especially in the current climate — feels scary. Especially when no one who looks you makes a lot of the calls and decisions on how far I can take things. Right now, even just existing can feel like a defiant act in itself.
