I was walking to the hospital this morning listening to the mountain goats and when the album finished Apple Music randomly played 1985 by bowling for soup and I instantly had the idea for this piece, and I came home and drew it.

This piece started with the idea of combining punk culture, mid century modern, tattoo flash, vintage comics, music obsession, and alternative fashion into something that felt loud, playful, and nostalgic all at once.
I wanted it to feel like finding an old record sleeve, a gig poster, and a sketchbook page mashed together into one painting. The more details you look at, the more little references, textures, symbols, and line work start to appear.
Every part of this was painted by hand using acrylic paint on canvas board, from the layered tattoos and heavy black line work to the tiny details hidden throughout the piece. no digital textures, no AI. Just hours of painting, outlining, repainting, and figuring things out as I went.
I think original artwork always carries a completely different feeling compared to prints. You get the real texture of the paint, the brush marks, the imperfections, and all the small details that make the piece unique.

Not every one has access to the mother they need. Mother’s Day can be hard, even for people who are mothers themselves when the person that gave birth to them is unavailable.
This can be caused from separation, rejection, distance. Some times there’s someone to blame and sometimes there isn’t.
Sometimes the child’s is better for it and sometimes they are worse for it.
Not everyone has the privilege of having a mother at the end of the phone.
Not everyone has a mother who is interested in them.
But our children will. Our children will feel a love forged in the fires of that failure. Our children will feel wanted, our children will be supported and have a home in their mothers.
The world can be hard for the misfits, outsider and the black sheep.
Our children’s world will be softer because they have been raised by warriors.

What is your comfort show?
Because ours is coming to an end and we are not ready to say goodbye to Deborah, Ava and @hacks it has been our comfort show through IVF, Pregnancy, sleepless newborn nights and now the first show we go to when we get an hour to ourselves.
