⭐️THE ONE ROLL EXHIBITION ⭐️
Join us Saturday September 13th from 6-8pm for Opening Night for this exciting exhibition!
Thank you to everyone who participated! We cannot wait to share the selected images with the public this weekend! There will be online voting from 6-7:30pm EST on Opening Night to crown the crowd favorite 👑 Link will be in our bio.
All participants submitted a roll of film to be processed and scanned by Pro Camera. A jury looked through *all* the rolls to determine which 20 rolls would be selected, and most importantly which single frame from that roll would be in the show!
Participants did not get to view, edit, or choose the one images from the roll - instead they submitted all of the frames to see if they could get THE SHOT. The final 20 chosen images will be unveiled at the opening!
The exhibition will be on display at Pro Camera from September 13 - Oct 4 during our retail hours.

Ryan went to the University of Virginia and grew up in Charlottesville. He started working at Pro Camera during school and would frequent the shop. Ryan “did his time” in the wedding and freelance/photojournalism and was published by The NY Times while learning the craft of camera repair from the business’ founder, Bill Moretz.
Ryan became owner and lead technician of Pro Camera in 2022. He still shoots, just not commercially, and the majority of his work includes his two hound dogs, Mae Belle & Phoebe.
What’s in his bag: Leica M4 with MP Finder with a 50mm Summilux f/1.4 + Portra 800
First Film Camera: Olympus 35RC
First Camera Purchase: Leica M3
Recent Acquisitions: A box of old cameras
⏳ You’ve got 7 days left to submit to the One Roll Project. That’s right—submissions close July 7th, and I’m saying this with love:
If your film isn’t postmarked by July 7th, it’s not getting in.
That means you’ve got one week to:
→ Finish that roll sitting in your camera
→ Drop it in the mail
→ Make sure it’s postmarked by the deadline
And if you haven’t started shooting? There’s still time. One week is plenty to plan a concept, load a roll, and shoot something intentional.
This project is about telling a story with just one roll. No backups. No second chances. One shot to say something meaningful.
Let’s make it count.

Madison graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts and taught high
school Fine Art and Darkroom Photography classes for over a decade before joining Pro
Camera in 2021. Her students can attest to her critical eye and high standards.
Madison also ran her own photo business shooting weddings and portraits with both digital and
film cameras for numerous years. She knows the weekend grind, post-production hustle, and
the split-second judgement needed to get the shot.
She has been the General Manager at Pro Camera since 2022. She wears many hats in the
business, including repairing many of the 35mm Nikon SLRs that come through Pro Camera.
She still shoots, just not commercially, and you can see some of her self-portrait work on her
instagram.
What’s in her bag: Leica Mini + Portra 400
First Film Camera: Her Dad’s Nikon FE
Her First Camera Purchase: Rolleiflex 2.8F & Mamiya RB67 (at the same time!)
Recent Acquisitions: Nikon F6 & Hasselblad 500/CM

This is a trick that I’ve used once or twice when shooting a very valuable roll of film. It works out pretty well. I’m sharing this information because of the upcoming competition. This method of saving a roll of film allows you to hold onto on roll for an extended amount of time so that the roll of film doesn’t hog the camera. Nothing is worse then having a roll of film in your camera that stops you from shooting other stuff. So use this trick to get around that problem.
there are a few things that you need to be careful about. Otherwise you could cause yourself some strife:
Problem #1 - overlapping frames
Remember that if you have shot 13 exposures on your roll of film, you need to at least get that roll of film to exposure 14 to make sure you don’t overlap the last exposure. Sometimes I’ll shoot a blank frame just to guarantee that I’m not overlapping photos. I’d rather skip a frame than loose a good shot.
Problem #2 - Light piping
Generally speaking, film canisters perform pretty well being handled in the light. But they aren’t designed to be rerolled and reshot like this. Doing this /can/ cause some light piping (light seeping in through the cracks of the canister). The best way to avoid this is by being sure to unload and reload the film into subdued light, or indoors
Problem 3 - frame spacing
There is about a millimeters difference between each camera and how they space out their frames on the roll of film. In the grand scheme of things, this isn’t enough to cause you too much trouble. But if you happen to move from a camera with a wider frame spacing to a camera with a smaller frame spacing you just might end up with two exposures that touch. It’s not the end of the world. But again, this is why I’ll shoot a black frame when reloading the film into a new camera. I just don’t like that overlapping problem.
That is all. Hit me up if you have any questions about this trick!

Pro Camera and Levi Cyr-Redcross are teaming up to bring you an all new photo competition called The One Roll Project.
We’re inviting you to be intentional and experimental in your photography. We’re inviting you to embrace the mystery and the magic of film. We’re inviting you to trust in your creative process, intuition and get back to the roots of what makes film so special. Because for this competition...
You won't get to review your work or choose which photo you submit. 😱
Here’s how it works: You shoot one roll of film. Then, you send that roll to @procamerafilmlab as your submission for the competition. A select panel of judges will review your entire roll and select your strongest image. From there, the panel will select 20 finalists to be showcased in a gallery opening at @procamera.us in Charlottesville, Virginia this Fall!
Last but not least, the film community will select the winner from the twenty finalists participating in the exhibition, to be announced that evening.
This is going to be an amazing competition. If you feel like you have what it takes to be the winner of The One Roll Project, start planning your best roll, submissions open soon...
