So lately I’ve been reading the wonderful ‘H is for Hawk’ by @emerillon , and couldn’t help but create this little oil study of a Goshawk, the incredible creatures at the centre of this book. This one is for Mabel and Gos.

A quick comparison between the underpainting and colour layer stages of ‘Moth on a Building’.
The underpainting helps establish composition and light/dark values as a foundation for the colour layers. The burnt umber also helps gently warm up the painting from below the colder greens on top.
