Shaped by his long-term engagement with the city of Old Dhaka, his works drift across disciplines, tracing the city’s layered histories, fleeting moods, and quiet transformations. This book expands on those narratives through conversations and essays by Samia Khatun, Rupali Gupte & Prasad Shetty, and Tanzim Wahab, alongside an exchange with Natasha Ginwala. Their reflections span photography, literature, architecture, and urban form, thinking around facets of artistic practices across South Asia while revealing the city as both a subject and a collaborator. Like Wasif’s images, Kromosho is about an enduring process— a dialogue unfolding between memory and place, reality and fiction, the seen and the imagined. This defining moment unravels an unanticipated journey to claim his own relationship with the mountainous terrain of the land, gaining strength from the ritualistic performance of maruni ( a dance form practiced by tribes of the Himalayan Belt and Nepali diaspora), opening himself to the feminine within through emotional and physical transformations and empowering the moment in the act of adornment. The maruni emerges and settles within Rai, demanding attention like the red hibiscus of his village and home. The deep colours of the flower remain the most desirable part of the plant, leaving the lush foliage of its bush often forgotten. As is the relationship of the arrival and departure of this flower, so shall the maruni continue to live within him and depart. A chilling book, a reminder of the very difficult and disturbing days mostly in Delhi - I admire @ishantankha deeply for making this relentless record, against all odds- he gives us “Still life” this slim volume of 3 zines, with no text (other than the cover) of images that are more than a 1000 page novel. Self published and distributed @offsetbookshop . Buy two copies because you will want to share this with a friend . Better still 3 and give one to your local library or community centre.

The shortest route to the market had been blocked off by large, no doubt virus proof metal gates. If it weren’t for the special logic of Resident Welfare Associations, 1 wouldn’t have found myself on the main road, witnessing the beginnings of a working class exodus, watching families forced to traverse hundreds of kilometres on foot to reach their rural homes. It was the partition but in 8K. Unsurprisingly, I spent the rest of that day and then the next many months, chasing the moment, trying to capture it as everything changed, probably forever. Why photograph any of it? Were the images meant to be a breadcrumb trail? A mnemonic guide to help us find our way back in case we forgot? Collectively, we are trying to raise 100K USD to support the Owneh Solidarity Fund. The Owneh Initiative is a newly formed coalition of 30 Palestinian arts, culture and civil society organisations. Members of the Owneh Initiative have united to strengthen resources to support building agency and resilience in the Palestinian art and culture sector by moving away from global north funding that undermines the Palestinian liberation cause. You can learn more about the urgent work that friends at Owneh are doing: / These funds will support two main purposes at the moment: + Palestinian arts and culture organizations, ensuring their continued operations according to real on-the-ground needs without having to compromise their values and vision to comply with Western donors’ short-sightedness and politically motivated, often arbitrary, metrics. + Psychosocial support workshops organized by Palestinian civil society organizations, using arts as a means of strengthening and healing Palestinian children and adults who undergo trauma caused by the occupation on a daily basis. Softcover Published by Reliable Copy and Sharjah Art Foundation 1st edition, 2022 English 144 pages In ‘Sculptor’s Notebook’, originally written in 1985, the artist Pushpamala N evaluates the artistic practice that she had been developing until then. Centred largely around themes of adolescence and womanhood, her sculptures had won her the Sixth Triennale Award and the National Award. While the sculptures take centre stage, in this dissertation can be found a longing to move further towards performance, humour, and play-acting—themes that the artist would go on to develop over the following decades. Both an artist’s statement and a notebook-format prophecy, ‘Sculptor’s Notebook’ charts the motivations, struggles, and desires of the artist’s multi-medium practice. Published here for the first time, ‘Sculptor’s Notebook’ was written as part of Pushpamala N’s Master’s in Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. We are grounded in this issue with a special contribution by philosopher Nikita Dhawan, whose cues on speech, silence and hegemonic norms of legibility contextualise these conversations. Entangled histories of language are showcased through the centering of lived experiences, be it Lucas Odahara’s collaboration with Indrakanthi Perera through a negotiation of linguistic exchanges between Sinhala and Portuguese, Areez Katki’s textual timestamps of Parsi identity, Sajan Mani & Antony Koothanady’s troubling of Malayalam or Mythri Jegathesen’s historical and close encounters with ‘plantation Tamil’. We believe in language’s capacity to form communities of care, opacity and nourishment, as marked by Rajyashri Goody’s ongoing meditation on food cultures of Dalit communities in India, and Sarah Burney’s literary friendship with the late artist Zarina. This issue is also a site for confronting difficult histories through non-hegemonic forms of representation via the vignettes offered by Naila Mahmood and T. Thajendran, and multi-geographical vernaculars of resistance, as expressed in the contributions of Sonal Jain and Angela Wittwer & Arham Rahman. In concert with Colomboscope’s embrace of polyphonic tongues and dissipated memory worlds, we explore the possibilities of centring language as part of a restorative and partial archive, as well as a community, lost, recovered and in flux.
