They are to time what a home is to space: they render time habitable.” Byung-Chul Han, “The Disappearance of Rituals” “Buio Atroce” è una performance che fonde danza contemporanea, musica elettronica e live electronics. È l’esplorazione dell’oscurità che avvolge una società iper-consumistica e iper-individualista, una società che si nutre del vuoto esistenziale che essa stessa genera. “Buio Atroce” è la promessa quotidiana di resistenza a questo vuoto. È una preghiera che i corpi cantano muovendosi, esigendo spazio, catturando il tempo. Attraverso la ripetizione e l’intensità dei gesti, la performance mette in scena il flusso di rituali che ogni giorno si inventano o si abbandonano con l’unico scopo di dare senso e stabilità alla vita contemporanea. . THE OCTOPUS’S NIGHT DISCO PARTY  Our last intervention in the Octopus’s Garden was a party. The objects, installations and spaces of the garden were all “tested” in one last night of great celebration before their dismantling. There is beauty in the intensity that reaches a peak just before fading away. Designing a party was a collaborative interdisciplinary project and a Dionysian exercise in hedonism. A floating octopus made of recycled and dyed fabric, a dancing cube, a series of musical instruments were all amplified with microphones and activated by the participants while the pink lights of the mushroom lab flooded the garden as the evening fell. Introducing the Collective Kitchen: An happening The Collective Kitchen is a moveable, folding and fully hackable device that was created and meant to be operated collectively. The moving and unfolding of modules and adding of parts to match needs expands the kitchen use, defies rigid workflows and creates new spatial configurations and uses in the garden. Offering a dynamic and changing experience of place while giving autonomy to the users. LET’S HANG! Picnic in the Barrel Vault - A student’s curated evening for @aasummerschool It takes two to have a conversation and three to get a full meal! LET’S HANG was a collectively curated evening event that was designed to recreate the atmosphere of a picnic to foster conviviality using the sharing of food and a blanket to sit on the floor as opportunities to meet others. MUSHROOM LAB Can we introduce food growing practices within the school? How does gardening and growing food facilitate placemaking? Introducing life within a paved courtyard can support the cultivation of practices of care and interdependence and looking at mushrooms and mycelium can help us grow healthy and nutritious food using little time, resources and energy becoming a tactical choice. Using various substrates and structures we grew several varieties of mushrooms such as shiitake, lion’s mane, oyster mushrooms in their yellow, pink and blue varieties. Being staples in many cuisines around the world, while we observe global food trends continuous evolution we have experimented with incorporating mushrooms in our recipes to bridge cultural gaps and celebrate cultural diversity through food. PRACTICES & TOOLS FOR A SPATIAL OCCUPATION: From Space to Place How do we claim our presence in space? How do we make space a place? Through co-design and construction workshops we have formed as a group and worked as teams to orchestrate and choreograph the occupation and transformation of Ching’s Yard into a garden of sorts over three weeks of the summer school. Using our bodies, fabrics, plastics, metals, natural dyes, found and foraged material as tools for the occupation we designed and created objects, devices and installations to experiment with waterproofing, rain collection, playing with colour and the senses, growing and cooking food.
