3 Months on the Road: ❤️A Journey of Highs and Lows ✨
Today marks exactly 3 months since I embarked on this incredible journey through Africa. It has been beautiful, emotional, and deeply transformative. Not everyone gets the chance to travel the continent for a year, and I feel incredibly grateful and blessed to be doing this. But don’t get it twisted—this journey is not just about the highs; the lows are just as real.
The upside? Every day brings something new—new places, people, food, and experiences. My world expands in ways I never imagined. The downside? Every connection I make, I eventually have to leave behind. Every new place comes with a fresh set of challenges: navigating unfamiliar customs, figuring out what’s safe, wondering whether I should wear a ring to appear married—small but constant decisions that shape the experience.
Looking back, these past three months have been filled with incredible moments but also real struggles:
Month 1: Ghana 🇬🇭
✨ Attended the presidential inauguration, Accra Fashion Week, weddings, an NBA game
✨ Met lifelong friends, built connections, captured incredible stories
💔 The downside? My bag was stolen, including my laptop with all my work. Insurance didn’t cover it—a huge loss.
Month 2: South Africa 🇿🇦
✨ Felt like Europe in many ways—stunning architecture, deep conversations, book launches, and a Black-owned bookstore filled with only Black literature
✨ Connected with creatives—artists, designers, musicians
💔 But safety was a huge concern. I felt restricted in ways I never had before. And worst of all, my mom was in a serious accident back home. Choosing to stay here wasn’t easy, but it was a decision I had to make.
Month 3: Tanzania & Zanzibar 🇹🇿
✨ Paradise. Stunning beaches. The Trace Awards. Soul-deep connections.
✨ I experienced myself in a way I never had before.
💔 But goodbyes never get easier. I accidentally deleted important footage, missed recording an interview, my luggage got damaged, and my flash got wet and broke—another hit to my gear. Little (and big) things go wrong, but resilience is key.
To those who’ve supported me—I see you, I appreciate you, I love you… ❤️
