Technology is no longer a set of tools or techniques, it has become a dominant mode of human understanding. It shapes our actions and how we perceive the world and ourselves.
In my new works, I attempt to give form to this metaphysical presence: not as a literal machine, but as an abstract, symbolic entity. I envision technology as an invisible but all-encompassing force; structural, systemic, and psychological. Through sculpture, I explore how this force surrounds, supports, and simultaneously confines organic life. I’m producing three sculptures together, representing this entity.

RECAP of the ORKID opening.

An orchid mimics the pollinator it seeks to attract. In a similar gesture, these works manipulates human bodily attributes to draw in the viewer.
Rooted in a sense of alienation, the sculptures embody a dissatisfaction with the impact of digital commerce on both mind and body. By appropriating contemporary commercial techniques and applying nostalgic, seductive colour palettes, Obbe creates an appealing surface: an inviting skin; for his mental embodiments.
Within this body of work lies a duality; the emotionally expressive dissociated core encased in a commercially attractive shell. This contradiction serves as a metaphor for the contemporary condition humaine.
