💫Introducing first year MFA student Oliver Getley💫
@o_getley
Oliver Getley (b.1996, Stafford) is an interdisciplinary artist working between London and Leeds. His expanded sculptural practice is concept and process driven. A central concern of his practice is the creation of sculptural encounters through a ‘reverse engineering’ of objects and sites, using formal approaches to found material. He uses collaborative and improvisatory techniques to experiment across projects using sound, technology and site-responsive exhibition making.
Recent activity has centred around the development of experimental tactics in the studio. These tactics unpick sites, objects and constructed scenarios; exploring questions of accumulation, definition, fictionalisation and institutionalisation through a miscommunication and resurrection of material.
He is a founding member of LAX (2024-ongoing) & Freehold Projects (2019-20), both artist-led programming groups operating within Leeds. Previous residencies & development programmes include, UKNA’s New Artist Collective (2025), YSI Sculpture Network (2022) & Into the Wild (2020). His work has been exhibited across the UK, including New Contemporaries at South London Gallery & MIMA (2026), Leeds Art Gallery (2023), Eastside Projects (2022) & Camden Art Centre (2022).
