Our program is a year-long commitment for high school students who are serious about photography and ready to grow, creatively, technically, and personally.
Our students shoot on location across New York City, work with guest photographers, take on real client projects, and show their work twice in professional gallery spaces.
They train on professional mirrorless cameras, edit with industry-standard software, and meet one-on-one with a professional photographer mentor twice a month.
But Salt is more than a photography program. It is a community.
Many of our students stay with us through graduation and beyond, connected to mentors, opportunities, and a network of NYC creative professionals that opens doors long after the program ends.
The deadline is Friday, May 15.
If you know a high school student who is hungry to learn, willing to be challenged, and ready to commit to their craft, send them our way

Meet Chyle,
A first-year studentâbut you wouldnât know it from his work. From day one, heâs pushed beyond his comfort zone, taking on new challenges and constantly leveling up his craft.
This year alone, heâs booked his own professional engagement shoots and stayed committed to putting in the work to grow as both an artist and a professional.
Our students come from every corner of New York City, each bringing a unique perspective behind the lens. As we get closer to our year-end show, weâll be sharing more of their stories and the portfolios theyâve built along the way.
A look back at VIP Opening Night at @aipadphoto .
Our day began well before doors opened, preparing the space and dialing in every detail for the evening ahead. Once guests arrived, the photo boothâcaptured by @malikesidibe and Daniel Martinez âquickly became a focal point. Designed by @onsetforyou and inspired by Irving Pennâs corner portraits (@the.irving.penn.foundation ), the experience was powered by @evotoai .
Guests enjoyed drinks and bites from @selectionsdelavina , @damelalate.co , @bjornqorn , @reeliefoods , and @hippeas , while @bhphoto introduced visitors to Instax cameras from @fujifilm_us .
A strong start to the weekend.
Join us at Park Avenue Armory, April 25â26, for your portrait and a custom metal print courtesy of @vividmetalprints .

Our students got to shoot with something really special this semester: the WLVâ01 Monochrome, a handâbuilt, 3Dâprinted, modular waistâlevel digital camera donated by @camerahacksbymalcolmjay
Built around a Raspberry Pi 5 and a fullâspectrum Sony IMX585 monochrome sensor, it delivers true blackâandâwhite files with gorgeous filmâstyle rendering.
They absolutely loved the challenge of manual focus and not being able to instantly review their photosâslowing down, trusting their eye, and embracing a more organic, intentional shooting experience. This is what learning photography is all about. đ·âš
Meet Katrina, one of our firstâyear students and a current high school senior. From sports to creative framing of New York City, go give her a follow to keep up with what sheâs been shooting.
Do you see one woman⊠or thousands? đ
Todayâs Xulibook is Women by JoĂ«l Moens de Hase @joel_moens
Weâre NYC SALT, and this series is space where we share unique and inspiring photobooks by artists from around the world.đâš
From a distance, you see a portrait.
But as you move closer, the image completely transforms. đđ»
Built from thousands of tiny photographs taken from fashion imagery, advertisements, magazines and digital media, Moens de Hase creates photomosaics that reflect the visual overload of the hyper-connected world we live in.
But this book is more than technique.
Through fragmented bodies, hidden details, and poetic textsâŠ
Women explores beauty, identity, desire, vulnerability, and the many ways femininity can exist.
The more you look, the more you discover đâš

Our advanced class is leveling up đâš
Theyâve been diving into bookmakingâlearning to sew, staple, and bind with wireâO and discovering just how detailed and creative the process really is.
With Tony leading the way, theyâre seeing how a thoughtfully crafted book can transform their photography into something even more powerful and memorable.
We canât wait for you to see what theyâve made đ

Earlier this month, our students had an incredible opportunity to produce professional headshots at the @Shutterstock office in NYC, located in the Empire State Building.
From polished, professional portraits to creative and expressive images, they brought confidence, direction, and vision to the shoot. It was amazing to see how much theyâve grown, both as photographers and as young creatives pushing their work further each year.
Huge thank you to @Shutterstock for trusting our students and supporting their development in such a meaningful way.
