Q. 이번 여정을 지나며 개인적으로 느끼는 ‘성취’의 의미도 달라졌는지 궁금하다. 많은 사람이 이번 결과를 두고 큰 성취라고 이야기하는데, 정작 본인에게는 이 말이 어떻게 다가오는가?
A. 이 영화가 큰 성취라는 건 나 역시 느낀다. 그렇다고 쉬워지지는 않는 것 같다. 늘 여전히 어렵고, 결국은 자기 자신과의 싸움이다. 나는 무엇보다 스스로 후회하고 싶지 않다는 마음이 크다. 더 중요한 건 앞으로 더 잘하고 싶은 마음이다. 더 뛰어난 작품을 만들고 싶고, 계속 많은 작업을 이어가고 싶다. 압박도 물론 느끼지만, 그건 외부에서 오는 것이라기보다 스스로 느끼는 압박이 훨씬 크다. 주변에서 아무리 기대가 크고 그 때문에 프레셔를 받는다해도, 내가 나 자신에게 들이대는 기준이 그 보다 더 높기 때문이다. ‘나는더 할 수 있는데, 왜 이정도에 머물렀지?’라는 질문이 내게는 가장 크게 작용한다. 모든 사람을 100% 만족 시키는 건 불가능하다. 그렇기에 중요한 건 스스로 납득할 수 있는가, 내가 만족하는가다. 그게 내 성취의 기준이다.

I feel relief and a calm.
9 months of campaigning and promoting ended last Sunday with the Academy Awards. Still in awe that this spark of an idea that became a mountain to climb led us down this path and to my first Oscar. The road was difficult, and campaigning was so much like the fourth trimester after giving birth. You think you’re done but there’s so much work ahead!
I feel so grateful. Grateful for our KPDH family. Our crew, our cast, my reps, but mostly grateful for my best friend and cheerleader, @radsechrist . Without him, this concept wouldn’t exist, nor would I have been able to get through production. He was always there taking care of our daughter and supporting me and my dreams every single day.
Thank you for sharing this day with me. I still love you more than noodles 💜
