Hi, I’m Abbey Devoy, the fuel behind @nuonce , and I never thought these pictures would exist — especially with a 6-month-pregnant belly. There have been so many obstacles to overcome, both externally and internally. But by God’s grace and my community’s help, I am so proud that these pictures do now exist. This is a post to say THANK YOU. For the belief, the support, and the donations. I have been overwhelmed by the words of encouragement and help from so many of you. This is also a post to say PLEASE do the things that you don’t think you can do! Put in the work, risk failure, risk embarrassment! It’s worth it. Not because it all works out perfectly, but because you LEARN a lot and you build a deep connection with yourself that says, “I believe in you and I’ve got your back”. !! Being A Woman will be screening at Clapham International Film Festival @ciff.uk next month as part of New Wave: all day shorts. It is surreal that this will be the film’s first public screening. The film was inspired by, and is dedicated to, the memory of Sarah Everard, who’s life was taken by a police officer while she walked home through Clapham Common. Many gathered to protest her death and were met with more violence. Being A Woman will screen alongside other brilliant short films on the 20th of September (4pm slot) at Omnibus Theatre. A BIG DEAL. IYKYK. When we made this film, we knew we wouldn’t be able to submit it any where because of sync licensing. It felt like a lot of effort to put into something that would just go on social media. We decided to make it anyway because we HAD to. After posting it, you all rallied around the film with so much support that it got noticed by the band. We then decided it was time to email Lake Street Dive HQ. The generous folk there (shout out Emily and Zoe) loved the film and made a way to get sync licensing from the publisher and record label. Top result 🥲 Submissions are now going out through film freeway but wow they are expensive. And you pay regardless of whether the film is selected or screened. As we never expected the film to get to this point, the money previously raised has all been spent on venue hire, production costs, and dancer fees. We’ve asked before and we’re going to do it again 😅 CAN YOU HELP? The more budget we have to submit (wisely) to film festivals, the further the reach of this film and its message.
