Delivered by NSCD lecturing staff, alumni and associate artists, the NSCD Summer School gives dancers an insight into life at NSCD, through the opportunity to: - Take daily technique classes and creative sessions - Meet and work with other keen like-minded dancers - Perform at our on-site venue, Riley Theatre - Engage with staff, students and artists at NSCD Keep an eye out for our NSCD Summer School 2026 Artist Announcements over the next few weeks. 📢 We’re delighted to share that the NSCD+ Bursary, supported by the Leverhulme Trust (Art Scholarship Training Opportunities for Under 18s), is making strides in removing financial and structural barriers to high-quality dance training. This programme is for talented young dancers aged 13–18 (as of 1 September 2025) from underrepresented backgrounds in the North of England, especially those from households with annual income under £42,875. What the Bursary Offers ✨ A three-tier training pathway (Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced) designed to nurture technical, creative, and performance skills ✨ Funding towards training activities, plus support for travel, accommodation, and equipment ✨ Training delivered by NSCD and partner organisations across Yorkshire, the North East, North West, and Wales ✨ A fair, inclusive selection process focusing on potential, motivation, personal barriers, and suitability 🗓️ Important Dates & How to Apply Application deadline: 31 October 2025 ✨ Applicants will also need a reference (from a teacher, mentor, or community leader) ✨ Shortlisting will take place in the Autumn term; successful candidates will then be notified If you know a young dancer who might benefit from this opportunity, or you work with youth in the arts, please share this widely! 📢 NSCD SUMMER SCHOOL 2026 ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT 🌟 Introducing Mayowa Ogunnaike - our Strand 1 (ages 12-14) Creative Artist ✨Mayowa Ogunnaike is a British-Nigerian contemporary dance artist based in Leeds. Her name means ‘brings joy,’ and she aims to embody and encourage that sentiment throughout her practice. In 2017, she graduated from Trinity Laban with a first-class honours degree and an award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Choreological Studies’. After graduating, she joined Phoenix Dance Theatre as an apprentice dancer and has continued to work as a performer for several dance companies and choreographers, including Uchenna Dance, Ace Dance and Music, and Seke Chimuntengwende. Currently, she is touring new productions with Gary Clarke Company and Léa Tirabasso. 📢 Masterclass Announcement NSCD x Ekleido Masterclass Saturday 9th May 2026 10:30am-12pm Ekleido’s master class draws from their backgrounds, combining contemporary dance with underground club dance styles. The class involves a mixture of guided improvisation and short travelling phrases, both standing and floorwork, and finishes with a phrase that combines the movement elements you will have explored. The class aims to work on strength, coordination, dynamics and creativity whilst getting a taste for Ekleido’s choreographic language. In this open-level class, participants would benefit from some experience with contemporary technique and urban styles. Open to everyone aged 13+, including: young people, pre-vocational students, students in full-time training and adult participants. The Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) programme is an extra-curricular training programme designed to prepare young people aged between 13-16 who have the talent, ambition & passion to pursue full-time professional dance training at university or conservatoire level Auditions for entry for September 2026 are: 👉 Saturday 16 May 2026 👉 Saturday 4 July 2026 Previous dance experience is not necessarily what we are looking for in young people, but rather their enthusiasm, potential & commitment! Sunny Side, the final day 💔 It felt like a strange, beautiful full circle at @rileytheatre on Saturday. Saying goodbye to SUNNY SIDE in the place where everything began was emotional in a way that’s hard to put into words. We’re so grateful to everyone at @northern_school for holding the final day with us 🫶 Mostly, we’re just full of love for EVERYONE who’s been part of SUNNY SIDE along the way. To our partners at @andysmanclubuk - thank you for your vital work, and for being part of this with us. And to @aceagrams for funding this final tour. It’s been a privilege to tell K’s story. A story that, sadly, still echoes the lives of so many men across the UK. Many of us are struggling in ways that often go unspoken. If this work has reminded us of anything, it’s the importance of reaching out. Checking in on each other. Saying what’s really going on.
