Announcing Our Next Call For Art: Kinetic Obsession - A photo and short film exhibition. Comment Obsession for a link to the submission, or check out our bio. This is more than a call for “good” photography this is a call for the photography that makes your heartbeat. We don’t wanna see the work that got a million likes, we want to see the work that you spent nights obsessing over. We wanna see the work that lights the fire inside you, we wanna see the photographs that took your own breath away and took your practice to a new level. We wanna see the photographs that you couldn’t not create because they were inside you, you just didn’t know it until you let them out. We want to see the work that made you realize you were not just a photographer or a film maker, you were an artist. Kinetic Obsession is a 7-day group exhibition taking place opening weekend for the @nova.twentyfour film and photography festival. We invite artist to submit their photographs and short films. Please note the short films will be played in our “basement” cinema on a loop with other accepted short films. It has a punk rock feel. No work previously showcased at The Voyeur Bordello will be accepted. Submission deadline: June 9th at midnight - Link to submit in bio. 10$ to submit Show Dates: June 26th - July 1st Submission does not guarantee entry. Original artwork by @cazmuck

Thank you to @ushersnewlook for bringing @nova.twentyfour to the Spark Lab Studios: Spark Sessions for our first ever workshops on The Basis of Screenwriting & Life on a Film Set. It was awesome to teach the youth screenwriting and hear their dope stories. A big part of NOVA 24 is to teach and show the craft in accessibility. Honored to have this opportunity to show just a bit of what we do to talented future film figures. It is amazing future directors, special effects artists, writers, and producers coming out of Spark Labs. Thank you to @arlayaw for bridging this all together and the work you do to make sure the youth have what they need to succeed ✨ - Miles

DEADLINE EXTENDED! All NOVA24 Curated Open Calls are due Wednesday, April 29th! We are seeking projects and events featuring photographers + filmmakers that show innovation and experimentation through concept, materiality, and more. The sky is the limit - show us what you’ve got! A Helpful Hint - Be open to different types of exhibitions and participation. The more types of submissions you select on the Project Open Call, the more often your work will be in front of our curators for opportunities. Different Types of Open Calls Project For artists - submit one project to multiple NOVA24 curated calls at one time. Space For spaces with no event - work with the NOVA24 team to plan a curated event at your space! Event For previously planned photo + film based events - submit for consideration for the NOVA24 2026 Festival Calendar. Curated By Gallery For spaces that run their own Open Call system that are participating during the 2026 festival season, links will be included on the website. Due dates will differ from the NOVA24 festival calls! Link to all Open Calls in bio! Featured Artist: @marie.le.moigne

This winter, we’re excited to launch a new film & music series entitled Silent Movie Soundtracks. In collaboration with Detroit art collective Mirrored Glass (@mirroredglass.co ) and NOVA24 Photo & Film Festival (@nova.twentyfour ), Silent Movie Soundtracks pairs silent film screenings with new improvised scores performed live by Detroit-based artists. Film curator Emmy Perryman (@cineleo ) selected a variety of films to share with 4 Detroit-based artist composers—pianist Rob Nash (@nash_is_clay ), singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Na Bonsai (@na_bonsai ), electronic duo Taqsim (@taqsim.live ) and harpist Ackeem Salmon (@ackeemrsalmon ). Each artist chose a film or pair of short films and is in the process of preparing a musical accompaniment to each. ~ 12/18: Rob Nash will take on Harold Lloyd’s iconic “Safety Last,” a worthy, stunt-filled classic from 1923. ~ 1/15: Taqsim re-scores 2 short films, the surrealist “Meshes of the Afternoon” and animated work “Is It Always Right to Be Right?” ~ 2/12: Na Bonsai and video artist Kris McKinney re-treat the 1926 heist film “The Flying Ace.” ~ 3/12: Ackeem Salmon uses harp to wrap Charlie Chaplin’s “The Immigrant” and Buster Keaton’s “The Electric House” in new sonic dimensions. We’re thrilled to kick off Year 2 of our winter film series, and to be collaborating with so many talented music-makers and storytellers! Don’t miss Silent Movie Soundtracks! Advance tickets will be available at the link in our bio and we recommend grabbing some as space for these shows will be quite limited. Admission to each screening will be $10 at the door, or you can reserve space for all 4 for $30.
