Dance took the spotlight at the 2026 Academy Awards last night as a celebration of community and identity. In a musical tribute to “Sinners,” with creative direction led by the film’s head choreographer, Aakomon “AJ” Jones (
@jonescurated ), artists performed in a range of genres—hip hop, Lindy Hop, slow drag, Zaouli, Chinese classical, and more. Ballet star Misty Copeland (
@mistyonpointe ) rounded out the number, wearing the iconic “Firebird” costume designed by Geoffrey Holder for Dance Theatre of Harlem’s 1982 production (

Later, in a tribute to “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” dancers dressed in traditional Korean hanbok opened a performance of “Golden,” winner of best original song. An ensemble then flooded the stage, dancing choreography by Mandy Moore (
@nopenother ).
