Middle school students who participate in our summer camp work closely with mentors in the architecture, design, and planning fields to create designs they would like to see in their communities. Are you an architect, designer, planner, or college student who is passionate about inspiring the next generation of creative minds to explore a career in architecture and related fields? Sign up to volunteer as a Design Mentor or Support Volunteer. Design Mentors will help middle school youth grasp the significance of architecture in their daily lives, as well as the broader cultural, social, and historical implications. Your support will allow them to develop skills and tools to contribute to their community critically and constructively. “Discover Architecture: People, Places, Possibilities” was a one-day pilot program held in Portland as part of National Architecture Week 2026. Organized through a partnership between @nomapdx and @aiaoregon , it brought 15 high schoolers together with architecture volunteers for an immersive introduction to design and the built environment.   The day included a walking tour of Portland’s Central Eastside, visits to local architecture firms, and stops at spaces ranging from architect-designed buildings to community spots like the Burnside Skatepark. Seeing the city through an architectural lens, students considered urban scale, the human experience, and questions of social and environmental justice in design. The day wrapped with a collage activity where students envisioned what they’d want to see in their own communities.   The program was designed to open doors for students who might not otherwise see architecture as an accessible career path, and by all accounts it landed well. When asked if they’d come back next year, every student raised their hand.   Shoutout to Bora’s Daniela Fowler and Diego Zubizarreta Otero for helping organize and lead these tours ✌️   #Boraarchitects #design #movetheneedle

This Saturday! RVSP via the link in bio! We’re super excited to collab with Ahlam @ahlamandco as a continuation from our recent “Where are my people: Black Creatives” event, thanks to our hosts @cafebetterdays . Ahlam Osman @ahlam.jpeg is a Somali-American creative strategist & founder who continues to envision how to make changes locally to create connected, restorative, and emotionally resilient community. She’s currently working with Albina Vision Trust and leading the Women & Climate Portland Chapter. Considering that her name means “dreams” in Arabic its no wonder she’s determined to make her dreams reality in her community from opening the first Somali-owned late night coffee shop to running for City Council in 2024. We’re grateful for this local leader bringing the community along as she follows her dream that serves as a love letter from her roots to the future we’re building together.

We had the most incredible time hosting our first-ever architecture week event; Discover Architecture: People, Places, Possibilities. Students from across the Portland area came together to explore the spaces and buildings that shape their city, hear from architects and designers, and dream up what the future could look like. We can't wait to do it again.
