5 ways to take action to stop AI data centers from developing in Prince George’s County! Currently, the county has a moratorium on data center development until April 30th. County officials are working on legislation to regulate and zone data centers. But our community has been demanding an outright ban on AI hyperscale data centers! We must continue to organize and get residents united on this demand, and pressure our officials into enacting a ban. See here for next steps: 1. Participate in our email campaign to pressure our officials into enacting a ban. 2. Make public comment at county council meetings that happen every Tuesday. 3. Continue outreaching to your neighbors and community and telling the truth about AI data centers. 4. Sign the Landover petition. 5. Join our email list to stay up to date on upcoming hearings or calls to action! See linktree in bio for all links!

In 2024, Prince George’s County officials approved plans for a massive hyperscale data center on the site of the former Landover Mall. The data center could accommodate up to 820 megawatts of power consumption, which is enough energy to power over 500,000 homes. Under capitalism, AI and data centers become weapons of exploitation and greed. Big tech companies develop these projects to maximize their profits, no matter the cost to the public. Communities near data centers are facing toxic emissions, strains on water and energy resources, rising utility bills and more. This is especially true in Black and brown communities. Hear from community advocates who are deeply concerned about data centers in Landover and in PG county as a whole.

Voices Rise in Landover: Community Pushes Back on Data Centers #datacenter Over 400 Prince George’s County residents packed the Sports and Learning Complex in Landover to speak out against proposed data centers. What started as a community feedback session quickly erupted into chants, boos, and frustration as many felt their voices were being ignored. From rising utility bills to environmental and health concerns, residents say the costs outweigh the benefits. County officials insist they’re still working on policy recommendations, but community members aren’t backing down. Last week, we delivered a community letter against the Landover data center to the Prince George’s County Council at a parks and planning budget hearing. The letter was signed by over 60 local organizations, community associations, small businesses, and local elected officials. See link in bio for letter. Currently, new data centers would have state and county tax exemptions, and would cost residents significantly through higher utility bills and pollution. The county council continues to push off decision making on both the Landover data center, and on data center legislation in general, which seems to be a stalling technique for us to lose focus and not pay attention. But we will continue to raise the alarm about AI data centers and demand a ban in Prince George’s County! #pgcounty #datacenter #dmvtiktok #landover

A study from the Maryland State Innovation Team found that 40% of Maryland’s workforce is in occupations where AI can do the job. The state is second only to D.C. where 55% of workers jobs are threatened. Data centers are not job creators, they are job destroyers. With billionaires controlling AI, temporary jobs for construction means long term permanent job losses down the road for all sectors. Once completed, data centers are operated by a skeleton crew, with hardly any permanent jobs. Statewide ban on AI data centers now!

‼️‼️SAVE THE DATE: The next Public Hearing is June 1st ‼️‼️ GO TO THE LINK TO SUBMIT A PUBLIC COMMENT!!- Our politicians are trying to be sneaky so after 5pm today you can not make a public comment at a hearing until July 7th…… On May 4, a new revised ZTA 25-187 was presented to the Planning Commissioners but the New ZTA lacks any significant changes! It does not address: - Bringing relief to residents with skyrocketing utility costs due to data centers outside of our county. - Regulating the data centers electricity and water uses. - Environmental protections against noise, air, or water pollution The biggest concerns residents had have NOT been addressed in the new ZTA, it seems we were loud enough. Please, let’s be loud June 1st, let’s bring a CROWD ‼️ Round of applause to the amazing drone operator- @gvpro4l follow him!

Across Prince George’s County, 62 different organizations, institutions, elected officials, and local businesses signed this community-drafted letter that makes it clear: we demand no Landover data center! Our community is united in this fight. Support comes from local city councils and other Maryland politicians, but the PG County Council has failed to produce a ban on hyperscale AI data centers in the County. Follow the link in our bio to contact the County Council!

In March, Calvert County residents protested outside an Amazon community meeting which tried to sell residents on a massive data center project which would include up to eight data centers on 2,000 acres of land. Calvert County residents have organized for months collecting petitions, packing local commissioner meetings, and more, demanding a moratorium on AI data centers. The people of Southern Maryland reject these extractive facilities and Big Tech greed!

Last week, County Executive Aisha Braveboy extended the moratorium on “Qualified Data Centers” to June 30, 2026. While the pause is welcome, we haven’t lost sight of our demand: no AI data centers in Prince George’s County. This extension is a clear stalling tactic, plain and simple. Officials are pushing the decision past the June 23rd Maryland primaries to avoid accountability! PG County residents have been overwhelmingly clear: we want a complete ban, not more delays. While the council “hears us” and the first moratorium in the fall was initially a win, the repeated delays signal their interests are aligned with Big Tech Billionaires. The struggle continues and so will our movement!

🌍🍃This past Sunday, we celebrated Earth Day with a community clean up in Temple Hills, Maryland. Thank you to @scejcmd and @sunrisepgcounty for sponsoring and providing supplies! Trash is a persistent problem in Prince George’s County, and while we wanted to do our part, it should really be the responsibility of the government to ensure our communities are clean and healthy. Instead, they give tax breaks to billionaires for AI data centers, facilities that will only pollute our air further and deepen our environmental crisis. Keep building the movement against AI data centers, and for clean and healthy communities!
