Feels surreal to be holding an award I admired since I was a young, budding designer. Even more special to receive it for Typeforce 13’s submission website. Typeforce is an annual art show featuring one-of-a-kind typographic creations by local and global artists, and for its 13th edition we wanted to honor the resilient craft of tatreez, the traditional Palestinian embroidery that carries land, memory, and history. The result is a highly interactive, digital-tactile site where visitors can “cross-stitch” TF13 into multi-typographic creations that we designed for the show’s identity.
Not pictured: the many hands behind this labor of love and web dev(otion). Starting with
@barefootfunk , our web wizard, who made our wildest ideas real and then 10x’d them. Will
@q_type my partner in dreaming + design; Lindsay
@seeleyavenue project and sanity manager;
@klooky on copy love; and
@ladyberman on show production.
So much gratitude to
@communicationarts for the generous feature in the 32nd interactive annual publication, and to the jury for the affirming words.
And most importantly to the artists, and to the organizers at
@coprosperitychicago who have shaped this exhibit into a Chicago favorite for 14+ years.
Also, shoutout to my kiddo who stitched, tested prototypes, and filmed this scrappy unboxing (toes for scale)!
Follow
@typeforce and look out for details of the upcoming Typeforce 14. Submissions are now open and live! Opening night May 15.
