10th Jun 2024 The R1 passes DMV inspection! A huge relief and a cause for celebration. I can’t wait to show this bike more and more of California, especially the coast and PCH.

4th Jun 2024 Engine swap day(s). When my original motor’s gearbox let go back in the UK, I didn’t have time to refurbish it myself so I just threw a complete eBay motor in the bike and got back to riding it. When the time came to emigrate, I sold the original engine thinking I wasn’t going to be able to bring the bike over with me. The nice gent who bought the engine did a great refurbishment and when circumstances changed some months later, I got in touch hoping that he might just still have the engine and sure enough, he did! He was happy to sell it back to me at a ridiculously generous price and I put the motor in the crate along with the bike, all to get shipped off to California. Before I could register the bike with the DMV, I needed to get the original engine (with the right engine number) back into the bike so I could take it for inspection. My uncle Robbie (a recurring hero in my stories) let me use his shop to perform the swap and helped me more than I can say. After a few false starts and frustrations (some perished o-rings for the cooling system, last picture) and a lost chain master link (bought especially but frustratingly misplaced somewhere in the shop) I finally got it all back together, and it’s running great.

23rd May 2024 My first (but not last!) visit to @iconicmotorbikes . An Aladdin’s cave? A treasure trove? A toy store? You name it as you like - the facts are undeniable, you won’t find a better selection of incredible metal all in one place anywhere else.
