Sundance 2026
So much fun. So much chaos.
New friends, old friends, long days, good conversations.
Lots of ideas shared, a few beliefs challenged.
Mostly a reminder that the best part of this work is still the same:
bringing ideas to life (slide 3),
meeting people who spark real curiosity(slide 4),
and building alongside people you respect(slide 2)
And of course momma Lisa (slide 5)
Inside that building, 40 Angelenos came together to deliberate on LA’s future.
This is a civic assembly. It’s a proven democratic tool used around the world to tackle the hardest questions politicians often avoid. Countries like Ireland used assemblies to deliberate issues like abortion and marriage equality, bringing everyday people into decisions that reshaped the country.
Rewrite LA doesn’t have a dog in the fight.
We’re not pushing outcomes.
We’re building a platform by the people, for the people to bring more Angelenos into the City Charter reform process.
This was just the beginning. A larger, citywide Civic Assembly is coming later this spring, with participants selected at random through mailers sent across LA. More details soon.
In the meantime, we’re still gathering public ideas for LA’s Preamble, the part of the Charter that defines what our city stands for.
Add your ideas at rewritela.org/deliberate.
This is how we make sure LA’s future reflects the people who live here.
Finish the sentence:
Los Angeles is a city that…
Cities around the world begin their charters by defining their values. Now Los Angeles is doing the same.
This Sunday, Angelenos are gathering for a civic assembly on the Preamble — the opening statement of the City Charter, where a city defines who it is, who it serves, and what it stands for before getting into rules or policies.
Before the assembly, and even after, we want your voice and ideas.
What should LA promise its people?
What should it protect for the future?
Drop your thoughts in the comments or help shape LA’s Preamble at rewritela.org/deliberate.
This Preamble will continue to evolve as more Angelenos participate.

What if democracy actually worked the way it was meant to?
For the first time in almost 30 years, LA is rewriting its City Charter — the document that decides how power flows and who gets a say in our city. But the official reform process is limited, fast, and closed off to most Angelenos.
Tomorrow at 4 PM, I’ll be presenting with @dunkwun and some other brilliant folks to the City Council and Charter commission to vote yes on our proposal for @rewritela
More on this soon (if this passes)… but in the meantime , LA City Hall tomorrow at 4. Edward R. Royal BPW Session Room (Room 350), Los Angeles City Hall — 200 North Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
