“Staples, I can’t stop playing, a few new bits sprinkled in. Touching on the corners of House music closest to my heart, and walking the line to Techno here and there. Enjoy!”
Happy Thursday, everyone! 💗 Link in bio.

bill santoro (sl___rp) and @nick_hoeppner celebrate a life turning point of profound significance (hint: it’s bill’s 40th birthday) with an evening of spacey fuzzed out reverb soaked guitar floaters (and probably a few post-hardcore rippers) on @ikii.berlin ’s hi-fi

Artist Focus: Nick Höppner (Ostgut Ton / Touch From A Distance)
My knowledge of Nick started in Norfolk a decade ago when I listened to his ‘Red Hook Soil EP’ whilst on holiday there. It was an early insight into the musical possibilities and tangents that artists explore within the frameworks of house and techno.
In the coming years through chance and curiosity I became increasingly aware of Ostgut Ton, Berghain / Panorama Bar’s in-house label of which Nick was the original label head. The output of the label as well as the family of DJs I discovered through it really resonated with me, none more so than Nick and his music.
Picking a favourite track of Nick’s is challenging as there’s a number that I love. ‘Rising Overheads’ is right up there. The whole album ‘Folk’ is exceptional. ‘Umbrella Pitch’ which I have added as the audio clip is genius - you have to listen to the whole build up to the climax and release of tension at around 3 minutes to understand why I love it. ‘Foundling’ may well be at the top of the list - deep techno at its absolute finest.
I couldn’t have hoped for a more apt first booking for Ost when Nick came from Berlin to perform in Leeds at Wharf Chambers in the autumn of 2021. The final slide is a pre-gig picture from that night.
In the airport Nick asked me if I wanted to see him play at Panorama Bar a few weeks later. I hadn’t expected the invitation but I was delighted to be asked to come as it was a place at the time I’d always wanted to visit.
Nick opened and to date it was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had. His style is unique. The track which he played which really sticks in my head that night was ‘Danny Tenaglia - The Space Dance (Main Mix)’. It summed up the emotions I felt.
Fast forward to February of this year and I saw him do the 7 hour closing set at Panorama Bar - arguably the best slot - which solidified why I am delighted to have him back. I’ve seen Nick perform 7 times and I still never get tired of seeing him play.

DJ SPOTLIGHT: Nick Höppner
We are very happy to welcome dear friend and absurdly talented @nick_hoeppner to Doolin for our mid-winter get together off the Atlantic.
Nick Höppner has been a defining force in Berlin’s house and techno world since the early 2000s - a Panorama Bar mainstay, endlessly curious selector, and a key mind behind Ostgut Ton’s most influential era.
With his label Touch From A Distance and his Refuge Worldwide show The Little Finger Show, he keeps moving off the beaten track, linking club energy with wider, experimental horizons.
From mentoring new DJ generations to exploring krautrock, ambient and new age in his H.A.N.K. project, Nick’s sound is all about depth, independence, and a lifelong love for the dancefloor and beyond.

With deepest sadness, I have received the news that James from Donald’s House has passed away far, far too early. I only met him twice in person, but his kindness and openness were evident, and I immediately felt a bond. I consider myself fortunate that I was able to release some fruits of his immense talent. My thoughts today are especially with James’ brother Pete, the second half of Donald’s House. It has been a great privilege to have met you both, which makes the loss all the more painful. Rest in peace, James. And lots of love and strength to you and your family, Pete
