@carneyscommunity is where my fitness journey started!
Often people ask me “Marcus how did you get into sport after your injury?” I always direct them right back here. Not long after leaving the hospital, reintegrating into society, I thought that fitness would be the perfect solution to adapting to my new normal. I was introduced to Carney’s in the summer of 2015 by a good friend of mine who has a similar injury to me. He had been doing wheelchair boxing with them for a while. We were the two wheelchair boxers who were just as eager as everyone else!
Through attending these sessions it helped me gain confidence over time as going to @carneyscommunity felt like family! George at Carney’s encouraged me to apply for my personal training course through them. I passed with flying colours and became a qualified personal trainer level 3, gym instructor, P.E coach for people with disabilities. This was a major achievement for me as I didn’t see this happening within the first year of coming out of hospital. All the boxing coaches went above and beyond to see us reach territories that we didn’t know were possible!
Fast forward I am now a ‘Paralympic Silver Medalist’ for Team GB 🇬🇧 I can’t thank @carneyscommunity enough for their constant investment over the years! The journey has been beautiful 🎉 I’m looking forward to the work we continue to do by inspiring our young people, this generation who are our future!
