Artist in residence @nicegmo hosted a writing workshop on Sunday. This workshop focused on building poems and writing the poems on a brick. Each person wrote down ten random words on ten tiny pieces of paper and gave the words to the person next to them. The ten words were scattered, far-reaching and off-balance. For example: (whetstone, santa, calamari, rodent, dragonfly, angle, mercury, celebrate, happyslap, killerwhale) Each person worked with those ten random words and built a poem. We added adjectives, connectives, and other words to build a larger poem. The poems were written on paper, however each person is given a brick and is encouraged to write their poem on that brick. You take the brick with you after the session to do whatever you feel is necessary. We drew inspiration from work by Hema Shironi and the late Jamie Reid. In the workshop space there were two copies of poetry books by the Pegasus Poets for people to read. Pegasus were active from 2005-2016 at Hilldrop Community Centre in Holloway Road, London. Many of our elders were part of this group and encouraged us as children to participate in this simple 10 words activity.

current resident @nicegmo is hosting a free workshop on Saturday 11th April from 9.30am. This workshop is about giving a t-shirt a question and then exploring London for 6 hours and asking people we meet to answer that question by writing on the blank t-shirts. Sign up with free ticket on the Eventbrite link in bio. ❤️🖤 -- T-SHIRT/CURIOUS CITY (workshop) 11/04/26 - 9.30AM till 4PM. -------+++--------- We meet at FishTank Workshop (2 beaconsfield street, London, n1c 4ar) on Saturday 11th April @ 9.30AM SHARP. xx Everyone is given a blank T-shirt and a marker pen. But feel free to bring your own light coloured t-shirt. After a quick introduction, we will leave FishTank at 10am. We will give our t-shirt a central question. For example: "What costs nothing but makes you feel powerful?" or "What does happiness mean for you?" or "what was a book or film that built your backbone?" The objective of this workshop is to explore London for six hours and ask strangers that question and whoever we meet writes their answer on the t shirt. WE WILL ALL MEET UP AGAIN AT 4PM at The National Poetry Library in Southbank, SE1 8XX The t-shirts will end up looking like a massive map of ideas and this could be a simple way to bring play, risk and absurdity into action for one day.. Maybe more.... Free workshop, come as you are. Roll in a group or on a solo mission. Bring a pack of biscuits and a kilo of curiousity. X We will draw inspiration from work by David Hammons (slide 3) Stefano Harney & Fred Motens ideas of STUDY (slide 4) - Ayef Kay and her practice with drawing on reclaimed t-shirts. (slide 2) Tea, t shirts and marker pens are provided. Muchlove Nice Gmo any enquiries/suggestions please contact: [email protected] @0207gallery 07732446036 🖤💜
